Almost a month ago, I got sized and bought a platinum wedding band at a retail store in PA and had them ship it out to NY, where I will be when I needed the band. The band got delivered on time last week, but it was incorrectly sized.

Because I couldn't physically return it back to the PA retail store and needed it next week, they told me to just ship it to them and they will cross-ship the correct size. I shipped it to them on Monday. After not hearing anything for several days, I reached out to them yesterday. The store told me they shipped out the replacement yesterday, Friday, with a scheduled delivery for next Tuesday.

We got the ring today totally out of the blue. And it fits. The tracking number for the ring that was shipped yesterday does not match the shipping box for the ring we got today, and the tracking number we were provided still shows it being delivered on Tuesday.

So... I am assuming that an employee shipped me a new ring for the cross-shipping on Monday or so, and didn't make note of it. Then on Friday, another employee received my old ring, and followed procedure to ship out a replacement, not knowing about the cross-shipping. What do I do? This is several thousands of dollars worth of a mixup here.

IIRC companies can actually charge you for a product you don't ship back to them. They just normally don't because they wouldn't make much back (for a company) and that provides better customer satisfaction.

In your case however I would think they'd pursue getting the item back. I'd send it back if I were you.

I don't think that's right. That sounds illegal... why don't companies just randomly ship you stuff and charge you for it, then?

That's most likely what I'll do, come Tuesday, if that really has another ring in that package. I'll call them up and ask for a prepaid label. Like hell I'm paying for their mistake.

If you get a second of anything, immediately tell. A place like Amazon may not care. Your place might. Just check cause theyll give you stuff to send it back.

That's referring to unsolicited merchandise, which this is not. This is a mix up related to a legitimate order.

If you just get stuff shipped to you out of the blue, you are free to keep it. But TC's situation is probably different as he already has a business relationship with the company

Note: I reworded the OP significantly, because it was written very poorly originally (probably due to my emotions running wild about the possibility of getting two precious metal rings for the price of one lol).

Well, it's their mistake so the onus isn't really on you to contact them. But they will realise in an audit and contact you sooner rather than later. At that point, to knowingly lie about it would be fraud.

Contact them to let them know, but they should pay for any shipping fees.
