At heart, yes. But it's open world with things such as refined stealth, house customization, and many, many more new things.

I've made a bajillion topics man ;_;

Here's some details on the official site: http://www.koeitecmoamerica.com/dw9/system_openworld.html

Do you know if there will be multiplayer in the main open world mode?

Thoughts on video (I actually watched it):
- Why did it say "8" at the start?
- There's no term in Japanese for "open world" apparently? lol
- Everyone can double jump now? I like how in SW, only the Ninjas can, makes it feel more special (and opens up secret paths for just them)
- Seeing the dude wail away at the wood door ineffectually then suddenly it shatters like glass made me laugh
- The hunting and fishing seemed so unnecessary. You're the best soldier in your army and they can't even provide you rations?
- I hope the B'z music is kept for the western release, but it probably won't be

Why does it need these things?

I'm a longtime Warriors fan, though mostly the SW, DW Gundam, and Orochi Warriors lines. Never was too into the DW franchise itself, though 3 and 4 are classics.
But I don't care for the open world craze and this feels like a pointless cash in on that trend.

Does this game have dodge rolling? All the SW games had it, but now SW 4 took it out and I miss it terribly. Having to actually block feels so wrong.

that's because their dynasty warriors 1 was our dynasty warriors 2.

our dynasty warriors 1 isn't technically dynasty warriors

basically, they made the street fighter clone, then on the second one they switched to the hack n slash we all know and love. in japan, this meant the game has a new title of shin dynasty warriors.

in america, they just slapped a 2 on it.

I was aware that DW 1 was a completely different style of gameplay than the others and DW 2 was the first "Warriors game" in that roaming around hack and slash style.

Didn't know it was a "Final Fantasy situation" where they're numbered differently in the west than in Japan, though. Huh.

I dont get the open world and house customization.

I mean, it could e come with its own conquest/empire mode instead, right?

Likely not. I can't remember which one, but they mentioned ruling out either online or local co-op, and were entertaining the thought of implementing the other. But we haven't heard anything since.

As for the open world, we've had confirmation of things like bandit ambushes and side quests(one of these is chasing a cat for an old lady). There are also suppose to be villages sprinkled throughout, but they haven't shown them. Almost all of the footage we've seen of the open world seems to be focused on the scenery, i.e. they haven't shown the roads or anything. And even though we've heard about all these things other than fishing and hunting, they've only shown off a single bear fight. There was a panel with a scan that showed a character helping someone fend off wolves. Hunting and fishing might also play into the weapon system, where the ultimate weapon now has a blueprint of sorts, and the player has to obtain all the pieces. Or something like that. I'm sure it requires crafting, and that may also include the early level weapons.

Yep. Dynasty Warriors 1 = Sangoku Musou, Dynasty Warriors 2 = Shin Sangoku Musou

Helly put it nicely.

I'm still dubious about this. I'll pick it up since I love the series but I generally hate open-world games. It's mainly Western games which are open-world and the vast majority of Western games are garbage.

Uh... that looked exactly like the games I played on the PS2...

Open world is cool and all if they implement the ROTTK story line into it, but I don't have high expectations from the series. I think 7 was the last I played.
