IIRC relations with Russia didn't truly fall to shit until about 2013-2014.
When the west put on sanctions after the invasion of the Ukraine, we kinda made Russia desperate. IIRC the DNI Report says that actual Russian influence in American political discourse (via Wikileaks, RT, and other publications) began around this time. --- Not removing this until Mega Man 64 is released on the Wii Virtual Console.
