what do you say or do?

There is always the group that says once someone sets their mind to it, you can't stop them.

Still, do you try to say anything to them to keep them from taking a road they can't go back from, or do you just try to comfort them before they do it?

As a dude that has been to some dark places over the last few years, I can say that even someone just making small talk or being company can help a lot more than one would think. Anything to get rid of that feeling of loneliness like know one even knows who you are.

I like to think there is a way to talk anyone down from it, but I am not too knowledgeable on this subject, so I do not want to spread false information.

Agreed. Not pandering or trying to assure you everything will be alright. Just showing that they care about you.

It helps if you've spoken to that person before so you know what they're like. Some people need to be reminded that their situation is temporary and will get better, others...

Well, this will sound really wrong, but some people need a little bullying out of it. Tell them off for feeling that way and reminding them that they are better than that. I like to call it "kicking their arse", you basically keep yelling at them that they'd end better than that. Pride is a hell of a motivator, but you REALLY need to pick your marks with that one.

I appreciate that dood. Not fully out but I'm working on it. Making the decision to come back to CE has already been a big help tbh. As weird as it is to say I pretty much grew up here lol it does wonders making me feel less lonely, I missed it.
