A quote from a customer who just purchased wifi enabled light bulbs.

I don't understand people who buy things that are a total thing to just show-off to people. There's buying a few things here or there that aren't a necessity, and there's going all out with all kinds of dumb shit.

Wi-Fi enabled light bulbs? The fuck?
Who needs internet on their refrigerator? It's unnecessary! You can't go on your phone/tablet now while you're in the kitchen? It's getting out of control.

It sounds pretty awesome to me to be able to control a light with my phone or check my fridge's filters via an app.

WiFi bulbs? Do you mean switches? I don't quite understand how you can make a bulb wifi unless it just unnecessarily opens the circuit instead of just doing it at the switch.

My best friend is all about making everything in his house controllable from his phone. His light bulbs in his living room are the ones that have like 256 different programmable colors. It's a little much.

You can do this more easily with a modern home security system, minus the fridge shit. And those will work when you're out of the house while the wifi bulbs will likely only work when you are on your wifi

Option 1:

1. Just flick the light switch.

Option 2:

1. Find phone
2. Open phone app
3. Turn off the correct light since you named them all similar and can't remember which is which.

Option 1 involves getting up.

There's no need to find your phone because your phone is always within arm's length of you

Oh, do those work to turn lights off and on via a smartphone or tablet?

Also, just buy a regular bulb if it's too complicated. Sheesh.

They do! I have some at home and it's pretty nice. Instead of getting up because I forgot to turn a light off, I can just turn it off from my phone or tablet. The bulbs themselves are pretty expensive, though. I can also turn them on and off via voice commands with my Google Home.

I have Hue bulbs in my home theatre room and they're amazing. I use my phone to change the brightness regularly. It's literally faster to use the app than to get up and walk across the room and back. And I can't control each individual light with the switch.
