Wait what?

SOPA, PIPA & TPP were all proposed under Obama's presidency. Not necessarily by him, but that was the case. He was president when the Internet started its second huge growth spurt, where things like this were bound to crop up.

I know TPP, but SOPA was introduced by a Republican with a lot of Republican support as well with some Democrat support.

I get free data allowance on YouTube, sky sports, what'sapp and twitter with my mobile phone plan in the UK.

Our net neutrality hardliners wanted that shit banned but thankfully the EU told them to do one.

Obviously we don't have any data caps on our broadband.

You Americans all have data allowances on your broadband don't you? Surely campaigning hard for net neutrality just means you're going to keep an Internet set up that looks more at home in the 90s.

You're all getting played into protesting to keep the western worlds worst Internet set up.

Net neutrality has nothing to do with that, that's the result of regional monopolies. There is no economic incentive for the existing ISPs to law down fiber lines. Even when they get tax dollars to do so, they just lay. Down 10% of what they agreed to do and then say nah. New companies can't join because the upfront costs are astronomical, and those regional monopolies will price them out before they can get going

So how is net neutrality helping that situation exactly?

If you had more Internet competition net neutrality wouldn't be a thing anyone would have to worry about.

You're Internet prisoners who are hung up on the comforts of the prison rather than trying to get freedom.

The real fight should be breaking monopolies and setting up competition.

You're all getting played into fighting for the wrong thing.

It's not helping that situation, they're independent situations. The fact that situation exist, extends to why the need for net neutrality is needed, because if you don't have competition, then you require regulation or the customer gets fucked.

and even if there did exist competition, having a law to protect consumer rights is better than relying on the benevolence of profit driven companies with economic incentives to not uphold them.

I'm not entirely sure you even know what Net Neutrality is.

It's one way of protecting us from the whims of regional internet monopolies. Let's get some competition and then maybe we can talk deregulation. Net Neutrality was a protection put in place to protect us from harm as the Internet evolved.

Is there some reason why we should believe things will get better if we just let these corporations do what they want? What incentive do they have to allow competition or not raise prices?
