I liked it. I remember when it happened I thought, and many did, that it would be permanent. This was before many other, or maybe any hero deaths. I think maybe the only other hero that had ever died at that point was Marvel's Captain Marvel and that death stuck. so why wouldn't this one? the revolving door of death hadn't been established yet. so it was a huge deal

didn't the superman comics go on hiatus for 3 months?

Although dying now in comics just seems like a writer thing, you'll be resurrected when they need you again and death isn't permanent anymore :(

Remember The Night when Gwen Stacy died and how much of an impact that had on comics in general?

comics need to go back to that stage where dying is actually something you don't want to do instead of "Go ahead and kill me, ill be back in a few issues anyway"

Yeah. Batman R.I.P. could have been awesome, then some straight bonkers shit happened.

or at least last longer. I think most deaths only last about a year or less. it should be more rare and when it happens, they stay dead for like 10 years at least or something. I just hate, in any media, when stories make a huge change...and then reverse it right away. let it stick for a while. or forever. depending on what happened

Barry Allen stayed dead for like 20 years, iirc.

I mean if they're going to kill people, do it to the lesser iconic characters so they don't feel compelled to bring them back right away. Like obviously if Bruce Wayne dies, nobody is going to feel anything because his ass will be back before you can say "wait what" but if Hawkgirl or Shazam were to kick the bucket, it might elicit a response

He probably would still be dead if it weren't for Geoff "Comic Book Tropes" Johns.

Silver Age Superman was permanently "killed" in "Whatever happened to the man of tomorrow?"

Golden Age and Regular Superman have been out and about depending on the writers.
