Hbg is goood. Spread is really strong and i love it. The artillery rounds seem good too, for solo. Or, what i do, use them in duos when your partner is mounted

You can damage the monster while someone else is mounted now. Doesn't make the mount faster but it hurts them and doesn't interrupt the mount

After 10~ hours I've come to the conclusion that I suck at this game lol. I don't think I'll get to play it more in the beta time frame

Normal greatsword charges don't seem quite as strong as they used to be. The true charge aka cartwheel is suuper strong though. Like, 2x as strong as a normal charge, but i dont have hard numbers. The cartwheel is kind of hard to use though.

Oh about long sword, yeah it has the new jump move. It eats a level of your spirit gauge but if you land the follow up you start refilling meter automatically. It's okay but hard to use. I don't see it being that big of a deal. The new counter is pretty nice though

Gunlance is underwhelming as always. The new swipe you cant do after a slam is very strong, but slow to combo into so it ends up having somewhat limited use. Wyvern stake is strong enouh. But even with these things i still see gunlance at the bottom

Long sword will definitely be better than in 4u but not likely above mid tier. At the very least, when you drop out of red gauge you go to yellow instead of resetting entirely. And if you land the spirit finisher you reset the red gauge timer entirely instead of just adding a few seconds

Yeah Gunlance was only ever super good when slime was op, and it was outclassed even then. Still fun though.

At least LS sounds fun and viable now, the less tripping makes me feel way better about it.

Dual blades are super strong in the demo. But part of that might be because of how much water damage the demo dbs have. Still though, very strong, very mobile. Getting hit doesn't knock you out of demon mode anymore, that's a nice change.

I managed to do complete all 3 quests in multiplayer the other day

It was hard getting people to do them because everyone just wanted to hunt the stronger secret monsters

Hunting Horn didnt get any new attacks, and the double-note feature from Generations was removed. But now they can queue up multiple songs to play at once, and the notes can overlap between songs, so getting the full buff set plus encores will be very fast now

I hunted all monsters solo and multi. Diablos was a pain. And so was rath but only because of the map and how often he flies to the other side of it. 20 minute limit, spend a minimum of 5 chasing it unless you're *really* good and can get it before it flies off. Finished Diablos with 30sec to spare with hbg, rath in 15min with lance

Did i mention how bad the forest map is? It looks nice, but the layout is entirely counterintuitive, which doesn't mesh well with a 20 minute time limit (glares at runaway-alos), and the scout flies bug out a lot on this map. And the framerate is bad in almost every area. And like 75% of the map is super narrow. And then there's a lot of one way ledges which you can get thrown off or roll off on accident and end up a minute or more away from the monster

It will probably be a little less annoying in thr full game with longer time limits and more of a chance to memorize all the paths. In the context of the demo, though, i got lost constantly, the scout flies led me in circles, and i timed out more than once just trying to figure out how to get to rath after it flew away

Monster interactions are a novelty that wears off quickly. Same animations happen repeatedly and honestly it becomes a battle more than anything else. I guess its cool though. Aside from that, the monster ai isn't any different. Which given how much they talked about improved ai is kind of a let down

Navigation will get easier but the map is still going to be full of super narrow passages, there will still be one way ledges everywhere, and i dont expect the frame rate issue to be resolved unless you have a pro/one x or are on pc. Scout flies being debugged is questionable too

There's a video of a cb user clearing all 3 monsters in the forest in under 14 minutes total. Not even a particularly good run. Cb is *strong* And access to the artillery skill is going to make it even crazier

Yeah free mons is great news. I expect one of the zinogre will come quickly, if not first, because we already have his skeleton and he is massively popular and almost confirmed not to be in at launch now. Tigrex or narga (Or both) will probably come quickly because a lot of things use that skeleton (including akantor and ukanlos. Maybe we even get those before the other two seeing as the game is focused on elders)

oh, one weird thing is, with damage numbers you can see just how much the sweet spot on greatsword and long sword matter. It also kind of deters me from wanting to use either because thats just another layer of management I dont want to deal with. I'm not sure if they've been altered in world or not but its definitely important.

so, one thing i wanted to ask monster hunter fans. i'm looking at world being my first one (didn't play this beta, didn't have time). i like how it seems like you always have something to do ... you're not just hacking at a monster, there are a ton of different ways to attack it and corral it and other things like that

but in the 2ish hours that i have watched people streaming it, i haven't seen anybody get seriously damaged by the monster they're fighting. the monster just seem to flail around, i never really see people's health dropping low. and these aren't pros or anything.

so is that generally the case? it just doesn't feel like there is danger in these battles from what i've seen. thoughts?

Did you watch them fight rathalos or Diablos? Big red flying dragon, or brownish skeleton thing with two big horns? Those two will 2hko, but they also arent quest targets in the demo. The quest targets likely have lowered damage values to make it easier for the demo. Historically monhun demos are this way.

Thing absolutely get challenging. The game is divided into ranks. Low, high and g rank. World will only have low and high initially. They havent confirmed but historically capcom makes a second expanded version with g rank. Could be dlc this time.

As you would expect, low rank is quite easy with low damage and aggression, and each rank ups monster damage, health and aggression.

Rathalos and Diablos are pretty aggressive in the demo but its likely you didn't see anyone hunt them. They killed me several times with nasty combos, particularly Diablos.

If you want to see challenging runs, look up mh4u g rank videos. Or if you want to see the hardest main line monster hunter we have ever gotten, look up "mh4u 140" and watch any of the level 140 guild quests. Those are all brutal.

Keep in mind though the people that make those videos are usually quite good and don't get hit much

I definitely watched them fight Diablos. I noticed the health drop once but I honestly couldn't tell what they got hit by. Does the combat actually allow for precision dodging and maneuvering, or is it just "if you're near this guy, you're gonna take a big hit when he does this" kind of thing? The attacking from a player perspective seems weighty, deliberate and rewarding. Is the dodging as well?

Depends on the weapon. Generally smaller weapons offer more reactive dodging, where the heavier ones require planning and knowledge of the monsters moveset. If you launch an attack with a lot of delay right as the monster is about to attack you're likely fucked. Some weapons offer guarding and countering that can be combined into quickly that provides a layer of safety (lance, charge blade and to an extent long sword)

Monster hunter is all about studying the monsters patterns and learning how to attack in between their attacks, and if youre very good how to abuse their ai to get them to do what you want. Most weapons, you cant just charge in and attack without paying attention to the monster and not get smacked around. Sword and shield is an exception to this, with nimble movement and very quick attacks with almost no delay. But its also quite weak

Monsters are also very capable of comboing you, especially in higher ranks. Take a hit, get stunned or stand up At the wrong time and get hit immediately again by the follow up move, often resulting in death.

damage was lower than what should be in the full game because the beta was a toned down version used for events like e3/psx/etc. i think the armor was also better than what you would normally have the first time you fite things as well (maybe not rath/blos tho)
