I too am torn on this subject.

On ine hand, good for you for getting the help you deserve. It's always better for all involved.

However, can you elaborate on your stressors a bit? You said your life was in danger (or something along those lines)? We're you overseas or were people just being shitty to you?

I also have a hard time believing that your nco's did nothing for you when you complained. To me this sounds like you were the problem (and maybe not in any knowing way to you. Maybe your depression was the cause of screwups on your behalf and it made the others hate you).

Having served and gone on a 9 month deployment to the sandy asshole of the world (afghanistan), rarely do complaints of your magnitude go unwarrantes on active duty... so...?

well he used his over pay to get a sex change. I'm sure the precursor to that probably got a lot of beef from fellow soldiers who could tell this guy wanted to be a girl, and was there wasting everyone's time while the rest of the solidiers went about their duties. All the while, he was trying to look for reasons to get of of deployment. I've the understanding that this is deemed traitorish to a group that would rather feel like brothers, so they likely ostracised him so they could feel better by not having him around.

How is this all known though? Just cause TC is trans doesn't mean they're gaming the system (unless it was stated otherwise, in which case disregard).

But I do kinda see where youre coming from. The only time we ever treated people like shit in my unit/courses were when they weren't pulling their weight. Funny enough, on the tour I did, the shitpumps only lasted a month before being given a WOG job.

It wasn't known to me that he was trans until he revealed it in this topic. I could connect the dots about the TC's initial post about death threats and hazing (clearly over exaggerated) to how he likely acted on duty. Combine this with the clear and obvious "I'm on disability, own my own home and can do whatever I want" AND then reading just a little further down that it is all paid for by him being ongoing depressed for years. Then you can tell he's cheating the system. Not only that, but trans people are often depressed before and after the transition leading for me to belive that he is going to use depression as a life long excuse to stay on free money benefits that could clearly go to a veteran that actually needs it.

Not really the kind of situation that can be judged solely from a single topic but all in all it sounds like a depressing life. I mean I barely make ends meet and people are demanding blood from a stone all the time but at least I've got my head on straight most of the time and have a wonderful gf who makes dealing with things easier. I hope your life improves TC, no one deserves to deal with long term depression.

My mom has been suggesting that I apply for disability benefits. It'd be nice to get them. I'm not sure how I'd feel about it if I got them though. I don't really consider myself disabled, and I've managed to hold down jobs before as long as I don't have to deal with people.

I have physical problems from a car accident when I was a kid. Nerve damage, injured back, and sometimes my intestines cramp up and pretty much paralyze me(and potentially threaten my life). Those things restrict me from doing physically demanding things.

I also have severe depression. Due to being abused and mistreated my whole life. I've been suicidal about 4 different times this year. It feels like there's no reason to try and improve my life because I'd just fail. I'm not motivated to do anything, and am currently unemployed. One doctor suspected bi-polar depression, a couple of other people I've spoken to have suggested that I may have ptsd(based on the abuse and threats to my life from it).

I have bad social anxiety too, and it feeds my depression. I recently lost out on a job because of it. I mentioned being uncomfortable about the one part of the job where I'd have to deal with people, and I guess they didn't want to bother with me. I'm so lonely, I want friends, and I want a gf, but when I actually spend time with people I get so upset and anxious and have panic attacks. I'm 34 years old and have never had a real relationship with anybody, am still a virgin, and hate everything about myself.

I would apply just to have some sort of income, but I'd just be denied anyway, so why even bother?

I havent read any of the thread other than the first post, but I hope youre right thats he shows more sensitivity. He comes off as an asshole, something being depressed doesnt exempt you from being. Hope he gets it and gets well.

ah, I missed that. I was confused because it's not like i'm picking on this person for their sexual preferences or anything. I have not hate for TC's gender change. I have every hate for their presentation of their life within the context of this topic, however.
