Not really. Some food is difficult to make and/or takes special ingredients that are a pain to find

There are certain kinds of foods I prefer to have at a restaurant simply because doing them is more of a faff to do properly than is worthwhile.

Ramen is one of them. Sure you can make ramen, but to get the authentic bone broth and each topping right it's a fucking chore and a half.

Mexican is another. Burritos for example (acknowledging that it's tex mex food) are full of so many ingredients that require a bit of extra love individually to get right. Each thing in a burrito is potentially a lot of prep on its own, which is too much work for just 1 or 2 people and one meal's worth.

No, because with something like pizza, I would only buy that at a restaurant because I could never make a good version of it.

I like to get Carnitas a few times a year.

Since I don't buy pork normally, I would actually spend more money buying it and throwing half of it away, and it wouldn't taste as good anyway because I'm not a good cook.

It absolutely is worth getting quality Mexican food if you can't make. Luckily I married a Mexican woman and she knows how to make a lot of Mexican dishes, but they take ALL day to prep and make.

Sometimes she has me smoke a pork shoulder for a day just so she can make a dish the following day with it.

That's another thing. So-called "low quality" or "not real" Mexican food takes a few minutes to make and still tastes great.

I could never take an entire day to make a meal, unless it was on Thanksgiving or something.

If you enjoy it that's totally your prerogative but don't be confused, that is not remotely authentic mexican cuisine and not comparable just because it has meat and cumin in it.

Most things taste good when you load them with saturated fats, sugar and salt.

I mean with this you're just acknowledging that you don't really have the experience or knowledge required to have an informed opinion on the topic.

I've had to eat that meal once. Was visiting some friends in Indiana and they wanted to make us a Tex Mex meal since we are from Texas. I didn't know you could boil ground beef until then.

I also hadn't had cheddar cheese on a taco in about 15 years so that wasn't good either.

A lot of people unintentionally boil their meat when they stick a giant wad of fatty mince into an already busy pot. Some people don't even bother to brown it, they just stick it in a slowcooker with some spices and tomatoes and let it all stew like that.

Hence "boiled meat"

Yeah I hadn't either until I saw chuck ground beef going into a pot of boiling water. I remember I was about to ask about it and my wife promptly covered my mouth.

but in the end, the real boiled meat... was all of us
