I've played all 3 and I enjoyed all of then.

My take, the combat is not the main focus of the games, the story & the twists are. The world of Shadowrun is not as straight forward as it seems. Its plays like an interactive novel with some action thrown in it.

In XCOM, you spend a lot of time customising your squad. In Shadowrun, you will spend the same amount of time reading texts.

if you like crpg style games they are definitely worth it. returns leaves something to be desired (feels more like a proof of concept), but dragonfall and hong kong are great.
