My first time playing a Zelda game.

I've been gaming since 1991.

I don't know what to expect.

It shows its age, but it's still a pretty incredible game. Kind of like a good movie with dated special effects.

I just got out of the village and one of the people there tattled on me and called a guard. I just threw bushes at that fool.

I don't think there's any missables, but there's one item that stands out that I'll mention, spoiler-free.

If I remember right, some NPC that you may miss, tells you about an item at Lake Hylia. You need it near the end of the game. If you don't manage to pick it up, you'll find a boss you can't beat, with only a half-idea of how to do it.

Was my first Zelda game too, and really fun - you just woken up in the middle of the night by your uncle, telling you that you have to go "save the princess"... and the story unfolds from there!

imo it's overrated. It's a good game but people who put it in their top 5 Zeldas are delusional >_>

Anyway. If you guys haven't tried out the Randomizer yet, you should. Lots of fun :D

If you get frustrated by the puzzle in level 5, go get the dungeon item out of level 6.

Same, and this is also true of Majora's Mask

Both are still great games though

I always felt lttp was in a really awkward transition period for zeldas

Zelda 1 and 2 are significantly more combat focused. OoT and MM are more focused on puzzles and environmental awareness in dungeons. LttP is in this awkward in-between place where it still has a ton of combat but not a very satisfying combat engine, and a decent number of puzzles in dungeons but they're not very well developed puzzles
