There is tangible value in the materials. Bitcoin is immaterial and worthless from a literal standpoint.

Stupid topic, but for a different reason. Money is a means to have experiences you want. Someone buying a painting for that much, while the price is absurd, is worth the experience of having it to them. Just money by itself serves no purpose.

I like money because I can use it in exchange for things I want/need. Money itself is worthless to me otherwise.

Wrong. The dollar isn't backed by anything. And even when it was backed by gold, what was gold backed by? Nothing.

The US Government says that US Dollar is worth what it's worth. Bitcoin has nothing. And gold has never not been valuable. First it was a rare pretty rock, now it's got a bunch of other uses. It's patently obvious that people who don't understand basic economics are jumping on the Bitcoin hypetrain however.

US currency is based on the good faith and credit of the US government. That does have value. They created a market and are the currency of the market.

bitcoin is a Ponzi scheme.

The energy required to mine bitcoins didn't come from nowhere, there is intrinsic value there. It's not like a bank about where they can just theoretically add digits to your account, bitcoins usefulness come from their limited availability as a product of the math behind them and the massive work it takes to product them.

The US government can't just print $2 trillion without devaluing the currency. This would be devastating to the economy. See Germany pre-WWII.

And what does the government say it's worth? One US dollar. Just like the Zimbabwe government said "one Zimbabwe dollar is worth one Zimbabwe dollar." Look how that turned out. A currency is only worth what people are willing to trade for it.
