This is how I see it. I have yet to see any hard evidence that a man is being paid more than a woman working the same positions at the same companies.

If a man is working a labour intensive trade or working in a STEM field job versus a woman with a Master's degree in Gender Studies working a retail job? No shit the man is making more money.

Abstract

This paper investigates how the peer gender composition in university affects students' major choices and labor market outcomes. Women who are randomly assigned to more female peers become less likely to choose male-dominated majors, they end up in jobs where they work fewer hours and their wage grows at a slower rate. Men become more likely to choose male-dominated majors after having had more female peers, although their labor market outcomes are not affected. Our results suggest that the increasing female university enrollment over recent decades has paradoxically contributed to the occupational segregation among university graduates that persists in todays labor market.

I work in the Alberta Oilfields, and they are here. The overwhelming majority are in clean positions, that don't pick up the tools. Every now and then you see one, but it's so rare that it actually gets brought up between people - "Hey, did you see that PCL has a female welder?" "Holy shit, no way".

They generally work higher paying jobs and when the OT (which is generally done much more frequently by men) is factored in there's basically zero difference anyways.

Also see:that one bill burr bit. Or any bill burr bit basically.

That is such a tiny tiny tiny part of the whole it's basically irrelevant. The vast majority of men don't do much of that either.

It's the patriarchy holding them down. That's why they can't get those jobs. When they try, men just push them out and don't even give them a chance because they think women are weak and can't move around cabinets or metal pipes.

The sexism in labor jobs is disgusting. There's nothing that a man can do in carpentry, oil drilling, logging that a woman can't do.

There are things in those fields that men can generally do better by nature though. Namely, the parts that require stronger bodies.

Stronger just means having an easier time, it doesn't mean not being able to complete the task at hand.

A male might be able to drag a cabinet across the room faster than a female, but she can still get it done, just a little slower.

You can also compare it to competence. Who would you rather have working for you: A guy who can finish their task in an hour, or a guy who needed two hours to do the same thing? And it could also easily impose limits. Being naturally stronger, men can do things that women cannot. All people aren't equal in terms of potential, so it's only natural that you would want to get the best employees. Otherwise why bother having interviews? Just hire the first people who show up regardless of their ability to do the job.

That's completely untrue more often than not. C'mon man. Women can be just as skilled at carpentry or anything else as any dude. But as far as the labour end of it? You might as well say there's nothing a stronger fitter guy can do that a weaker dude can't.

You do realize that below foreman/supe/leadhand most construction gigs require a significant degree of strength right?

The fact some women can physically outwork some men doesn't change the fact that males tend to be physically stronger.

Men don't paid more. They make more. There's a difference.

Men getting paid more than women is nothing more than generalized stupidity that breaks at the seams once logic is introduced. Men certainly don't paid more than women in porn or modeling. There are many reason why women make less. Too many of them pursue useless liberal arts degrees in college. Degrees like gender studies, public health, philosophy and sociology. They lead to customer service jobs that don't pay much.

It's also a well known fact that women in general like to read more than man and men in general like to play on the computer more than women. More reading means a higher chance of a career in publishing, which pays low salaries. Meanwhile, tech pays very well.

Women also take time off after giving birth to a child. They work less hours and spend more time with family. They take less riskier and less dirty jobs. I don't see women doing garbage collection....they rather work in a bookstore that pays $15.00/hour.

In some studies, women actually get paid more than men in the similar positions, but people tend to overlook it because it doesn't fit the narrative.

This. I had one job where taking out the trash or lifting anything slightly heavy was "the man's job" and it was perfectly acceptable to everyone. Also, lmao about women being equal to men in labor jobs. I've worked in various warehouses, and women always get the easy jobs for equal or more pay. At my current job, we unload/load trucks and 95% of the women work half the pace the men do because they can't lift or push anything heavy. There's a couple that do actually bust their ass but they still can't keep up with the men.
