Outside of an arranged marriage context, they usually just lied about being virgins. And for nobles, the women would often lie about being pregnant as well if their husband knocked up some housemaid and they had to explain where the baby came from all of a sudden

Believe whatever you want. Most folks in the 19th century didn't engage in pre-marital sex. It started with Hollywood and all these stories of degenerate celebs sleeping around with anything they laid their eyes on. These degenerates influenced American culture and society.
