Topic. I got ahold of a fairly powerful gaming PC a few years back. Never felt the need to upgrade it at all. However, it's getting hard to hit high FPS with decent settings on it now. This weekend is pretty much the perfect time to shop for one, so yeah. Can I buy whatever? If not, how do I know which would be compatible with my PC?

Check the power on your PSU and the requirement for the GPU.

Other than the PSU considerations, yes, you should be able to buy any modern gaming GPU and have it work with a computer that's a few years old.

PCI-e slots are standard for all video cards so the only concern would be power requirements.

Power requirements aren't a concern for a single GPU unless you've somehow got a 350w or less PSU

Or if you're not gonna buy an excessive PSU with much more wattage than you need

Just looked around online. Sucks that there isn't any way to see your PSU wattage without looking at the hardware. Don't feel like opening it right now lol.

Also, my current Goku is a NVidia GeForce GTX 460. Pretty dated.

*GPU lol

Hey I had a gtx 460 until this year. Upgraded to a 1060, among other things.

Good times with that card. But yeah. It came out what, 7 years ago now?
