That really sucks, but not surprising at all. I guess it was only a matter of time before the ISP's (and the government) put their foot down to demand more money than they were already getting.

Anyone want to take a guess at when Netflix started paying Comcast, AT&T, and Verizon to stop throttling their traffic?

Also, want to take a guess a who Netflix passed those costs onto?

That's mobile.
Incidentally, mobile has been specifically excluded from net neutrality in the the US, and all we've gotten out of it is T-Mo's Binge On.

Portugal does have Net Neutrality because of EU regulations.

That image is about mobile data and what you're seeing is an example of zero-rating where some specific services don't consume any mobile data. If you're curious you can go read more about internet regulations in europe.

I get that america is pretty up in arms about net neutrality but being ignorant and misinformed doesn't help.

These posters are all absolutely 100% correct. Mobile has always been excluded from the broader net neutrality laws and regulations. So you see, that's why nothing will change once we start excluding regular broadband internet from net neu.... oh

I'm not saying this isn't what our internet service might turn into, and they aren't either. Don't be a smart ass. Just that he's blatantly misrepresenting what this is, as is everyone else sharing this and claiming Portugal doesn't have NN.

Yes, the TC absolutely is misrepresenting the argument and spreading misinformation, however, saying it won't happen because "that only happens on mobile" is not a supported statement. It's a prediction for the future based on the assumption that mega telecomms will voluntarily treat customers right instead of fucking us for every dollar we have.

The only people who "won't see a difference" are people who live in areas where there is significant provider competition.

Elon Musk / SpaceX is our only hope now.

Hey man I'm all for shitting on Portugal (since I live here) but let's get it right at least. Our internet services aren't really an issue, you get TV with over 100 channels, phone and 100Mb/s optic fiber internet (unlimitied traffic) for 29 euros a month.

If you're downloading a PC/twins videogame over mobile, something has already gone catastrophically wrong.

No one you quoted said that. Using misinformation and false information allows what you are trying to stop to get by. Because it increases confusion on a subject that people already don't understand.

I only subscribe to unlimited plans on principal even though I only rarely use more than 20gigs anyway.
