A few weeks ago, I deleted my account on there after I got fed up with receiving spam jobs that don't match my interests from Indian dudes who "found [my] resume on ZipRecruiter". I had assumed that I created the account at some point when I thought it would be a decent site to use, but I'm not sure.

Last night, I apply to a job listing on a different site and there is no mention of ZipRecruiter, but I get an email back about ZipRecruiter getting the application. I figure no big deal, but then this morning I get a spammy "keyword matched" job from ZipRecruiter, click on the posting out of curiosity just so I can see laugh at how poorly mismatched it is, then find out I'm logged in to ZipRecruiter!

What the fuck? What kind of shitty ass site just creates an account for you without your permission? I have to delete my account again, which they make a major pain in the ass to do. I don't think you can even delete it actually, just close it. I remember for the last one I had to give it a fake email address and resume just to be sure that my contact info wasn't kept on there. And then they hide the link to close it... FUCK!

It's possible that the place you applied to uses ziprecruiter for its recruiting and just auto-created an account for you when you applied.

It is scummy. I remember applying for jobs and having to create several accounts, and then having to delete/unsubscribe from said accounts after getting rejected because I kept getting marketing emails.

Oh, and their shitty site also does a terrible job at converting resumes and chopped up my one-pager into an awkward one and a third

This is why I try to apply through the actual company job site if it's available. Usually you still have to create an account, which sucks, but in those cases I almost never get spammed later on.
