What do you think of people who say this? Do you believe they are truly depressed? Or just act it for extra attention? I know people can get depressed when they have all those things but c'mon like really?

Depression doesn't actually go away when you get all those things, contrary to popular opinion.

Having more resources does make it easier to get the help you need, but that's only if you put in the effort to help yourself.

I believe them 100%. Did you know that Marcus Persson, the creator of Minecraft, was immensely (maybe he still is, I don't keep up) depressed even though he got $2 billion? He felt lonely, that his friends didn't appreciate what he tried to do for them, and his broken, short-lived marriage, and more.

I bet he's crying up in his castle in the mountains. All that money can open a bunch of opportunities.

Maybe they don't feel like they are doing anything with their life

It's easy to jump on something when you're extremely rich.

Maybe they don't have any hobbies / interests

They have a girlfriend

Maybe they feel like a slave to whatever they are doing

They can change it. They're in control if they're rich

Maybe the people they deal with are toxic

Easy to drop them

Maybe they have mental illnesses or physical disabilities

>in great shape

The list goes on

Being depressed because of your circumstances and having depression are two very different things.

Having a bunch of shit doesn't magically make depression go away. If anything it makes it worse because you no longer have the 'maybe if my life gets better I won't be depressed' angle anymore

This cannot be stressed enough. I am depressed with my life as it is right now. I have multiple sclerosis. I have encountered several road blocks in completing my recent move. But, there are a lot of reasons to be optimistic, as some things are finally starting to improve in my life. I took up stand up comedy for a hobby, and it turns out I'm not awful at it, and this week will be my third week :3

Really, calling the disorder "Depression" was a stupid idea, because it leads to this notion that it just means being sad when the disorder is so much deeper than that. And it's not like people in general even want to understand mental illnesses in general, so giving them the built-in ammo to pretend like it's as easy as "cheering up" is terrible.

Everybody has their own concept of what it is to suffer. Compared to people living in the third world eating rats for dinner because they're literally starving you are just as silly as this dude you're shitting on, but you don't want to hear that do you? You just want to be validated about why your feelings are more warranted than his. How about this though?

He's being a baby. Compared to what other people go through. He's rich, he travels the world, he has amazing open opportunities, he has loyal fans etc etc etc. If you have these things then don't complain about being depressed because he doesn't know what true depression is.
