Something I've been wondering.

Since Gen 4, in particular HGSS, there's been an upswing in the number of legendaries to find in the postgame. ORAS particularly had dozens of them. But all of them feel like they've had legendaries hiding in particularly obscure places or what have you. Since HGSS I've had absolutely no issue with using a walkthrough or guide, using Serebii or Bulbapedia, to find all the postgame stuff. For most games I think that would feel maybe a little dirty, like cheating, but I've never had any problem with doing it in Pokemon. It creates almost like a checklist to go through. But to me, that use of outside sources to fully complete the game is unique to Pokemon, as far as I'm aware.

My question is this - have any of you actually done all the postgame stuff of a Pokemon game released in the last decade without the use of outside sources? I feel like there's no way I'd ever have the patience to track down all the ORAS legendaries without using the net to find out exactly when and where to go places to catch them.

Unless they watched a Let's play or something no one is saying yes who isn't lying. MAYBE XY... but that's it.

Well Sun and Moon were a piece of cake too, the only "problem" was Necrozma and even then he could be found without a guide

But yeah ORAS...how are people supposed to figure out you need 3 Pokemon with max friendship/EV in the team to make some Pokemon appear?

I... use a guide any time I do post-game stuff! I only feel dirty using a guide for the main storyline

Nobody is going to figure that out, but I'd expect it to happen naturally a lot. At least for me, postgame I'm usually with low-level guy I'm training + egg + 4 of my main team, who I figure would be maxed by then?

p sure the instruction booklet had a braille guide in it. so you just write everything down

i think i did that but i may be crazy

edit: only somewhat crazy. braille alphabet is in the strategy guide not the booklet. i guess i wanted to somewhat solve it on my own?

I thought more recently all the legendaries were in pretty obvious spots. The disappointing thing is they are no longer hiding at the end of well-thought post-game areas like the unknown dungeon, but now just sitting in a fairly obvious place.

There was literally a cipher key in one of the caves. I wrote it down on a sheet of paper and translated each message by hand. No guide needed.

I actually miss hunting for Legendaries in their dungeon, they stopped doing this from Gen VI and it sucks (not sure how it's in USUM yet)

Say what you want about Gen IV bringing a lot of new legendaries, but finding them was a blast
