i mean honestly its it more helpful that [if you believe he's the best candidate] you have someone who helps put in good policies to help the state rather than having a moral victory over punishing a bad guy?

i mean justice for a few people versus the benefit of the whole state? isn't that ultimately more important for more people, if you believe he would be best for the state/country?

its not entirely unreasonable to make the argument, imo

that said, i think he's a POS, like lots of people who get away with that, and worse

Except for the fact that there's no reason to believe that he stopped, and giving him more power could enable him to commit similar acts more often, with a higher chance no one says anything. If he wins, he becomes nearly untouchable.
