I really feel like it's a mistake in these kinds of games to have disposable healing items, particularly if they're your only way of healing.

It was a mistake in Demons Souls and Dark Souls 2 and it's a mistake here. Bloodborne too, as much as I love all those games.

1) Grinding. Eww.

2) It makes people give up on boss fights and tough encounters because they don't want to waste their valuable healing items. When things start to not go your way the temptation is to just throw and try again. Not only is that super lame, but some of the best Soulsborne moments come when you have a sliver of health left and you come back and win. That can still happen, but ehhh...

I really can't behind this mechanic, it makes me more salty than some of these enemies and bosses to be honest. I was fighting the second or third boss in Nioh and when I realised my healing wasn't coming back it was just coming from storage, I exited when I ran out. I didn't rage quit because of the boss - I just couldn't be bothered going and grinding away for ages just to have enough for one more attempt. That's the kiss of death to my enjoyment of the game. :/

Worse than grinding to get healing items is having a trivial run back to the boss fight

Ys got it right and just gives you a continue button to go right back to it

Mine was when I realized everything was in episode form. That really kinda ruined everything for me for some reason. To know that nothing's connected, and they re-use old areas with different item/enemy layouts.

I feel like Nioh starts out really strong but gets weaker the farther you get into it

It wasn't really an issue in DS2 because you still had estus to fall back on, and that's sort of the system Nioh uses because you can never run out of healing items.

You will always at least have 3. Even if you have 0 in storage. You can merely pick up more to have more than 3 on you. As you find kodama in a region, the default max increases from 3 to like...6 or something I think. So it's basically just an estus system but you can find more estus as you go to have a surplus.

If you want even more renewable healing, the Onmyo skill tree has Oasis, and Rejuvenate. You equip these once unlocked like spells basically in From's games, and they replenish on shrine visit/death, so that just stacks on more healing.

Elixirs stop being a big concern later down the road. Early on it can help to use stuff that gives you HP back though, like from combat. Isonade, one of the early spirits you can get, heals you some for every enemy killed in melee. Fuse-Ushi, the second spirit you unlock after the second mission beyond the tutorial, will heal you from any amrita absorption, which includes every single hit on a yokai that staggers them, every loot source as well. You can also find accessories with effects like this, or even weapons.

You know it's interesting, I didn't hate it that it was individual levels, but I'm positive it's why fatigue set in with me w/ Nioh. I really enjoyed the game in the beginning, but I eventually gave up on it. I just got bored. And I think the individual levels is why. It heightened the grindy nature of it.

It didn't feel like an epic journey in the way Souls games do so I just kinda stopped. It's weird for me cause I actually liked the game, but yet didn't finish it. That rarely happens to me

I disagree, I don't really mind the run back to the boss.

Yeah that was an odd choice too.

Nioh was made by Team Ninja, the same developers that made Ninja Gaiden. If you played that game on Master Ninja, you would know that items were useless and you just had to win through sheer skill and memorization. So why don't you learn how to beat a hard game like an actual good player and learn from your mistakes, or are you just another new age bitch who expects nerfs and easy gifts handed to you?

Dude stop acting like video game accomplishments make people hardcore.

Since the inception of our existence, we were all signed up without our consent for the most hardcore game of all: life.

It's horribly imbalanced, there's 9 billion different instruction manuals and they're all wrong, it has perma-death AND pay to win and PvP can be sprung on you regularly and without warning even if you're not ready. And don't even get me started on all the tedious grinding, unclear objectives, terrible camera controls, weird glitches, bullshit side quests and nonsensical design choices.

No video game is more hardcore than the game we're all stuck playing 'til we inevitably die and return to the hopeless void of nonexistence from which we paradoxically sprang.

But it's just a waste of time

Every ARPG should be like Ys and just reset you back to what you had at the start of the fight, healing item count and everything

A-fuckin-men. I love Ninja Gaiden, I Dark Souls, Castlevania for NES, Mystical Ninja for SNES, love Final Fantasy Tactics 1.3, hard games with the only reward being satisfaction. Fuck these new age gamers who think life is hard. What a joke.

It's not about holding your hand. Are you saying Dark Souls 1 holds your hand because it has Estus? Or making a grind-fest means a game is more hardcore? Miss me with that trash lol.

All you're able to do is reply with pictures that your equally pathetic generation came up with. You can think all you want that my responses are overly hostile and feel free to make fun of them on Discord with your friends, but the fact that you choose to reply with that kind of crap shows that you rely on the creativity of others and deep down inside you know that you're useless and will never say something that your own conscious will ever come up with. So tell me right now, what about my previous statements is wrong? And please, reply with actual Text and not some poor photoshop "meme" job that you found on Reddit/4chan

I'm not sure I see the point in taking you seriously when you're so bizarrely, needlessly hostile and jump to so many conclusions your ankles are probably broken down into powder at this point.

I hope this is just some troll persona and you're not literally like this, because you're like the caricature of a "hardcore gamer" that everyone rolls their eyes at.
