Telcos are no longer obligated to maintain copper lines anymore, even if there's nothing to replace it. Customers can just go fuck themselves now? Telcos own the government.

Yeah they do. And the government is just too stupid or corrupt to do anything about it evidently.

Stop feeding the troll, for fucks' sakes.

The tl;dr of NN: Net Neutrality going away has literally no positive effect on the consumer. There is no defending it unless you own the telecom companies who will be profiting from the consumers who will be affected by it.

Telcos are going to fight this. They've fought municipal broadband before. They're feverishly abolishing the last few pesky laws like this and others that protect the consumer because they get in the way of their profit worship.

In fact isn't that still illegal in some states thanks to their BS lobbying?

Last I read it was, but I kinda stopped keeping up to date on that stuff awhile ago when it was 100% bad news agitating depression.

It is. A few areas are succeeding and going along with building municipal broadband, but yeah... ISPs are fighting that stuff hard.

Yep, I used to live in a rural area where some people got together to start a nonprofit ISP, but it got shut down even though no big ISP had plans to build out there until like a decade later.

There's nothing stupid about saying "OMG if net neutrality fails we might get data caps" is not a very effective way to get someone with satellite internet who previously had cellular internet to take the problem seriously.

Who's saying that, though?

Reddit did at one point. They were doing a thing pretending you went over a data cap to raise awareness of net neutrality being in danger.

I also saw someone else saying like "this is how much we might have to pay for x amount of speed" and it was way cheaper than I pay so stuff like that was also silly.

It's best for them to focus on the control it gives ISPs and the risk of turning it into a similar model to cable TV instead of things people already have worse versions of WITH net neutrality.

Data caps are the result of ISPs trying to gain extra profit from over-selling their network capacity.

I disagree. I'm pretty sure it's the result of them being run by Satan.

ISPs over-selling their network capacity is a result of them being run by Satan.
Data caps are a result of them over-selling their network capacity.

Run by Satan > Over-selling network capacity to increase profit > Data caps to increase profit

That's mobile, which has been specifically excluded from neutrality here in 'murica.
