IX is probably my least favorite FF game i've finished and i still like it. though i never finished II or V, never touched III and only watched LPs of T and XIII (neither of which really appealed to me in gameplay from what i saw).

IV: boring cast, boring plot, lack of character customization
V: super boring cast/plot (unless it picks up in the last third (?) which I didn't play)
VI: Kefka sux [Terra does too but she's one cast member out of many. it's harder to overlook a terrible villain]
VII: too-easy combat, interchangeable player characters
VIII: terrible playable cast, interchangeable player characters
IX: slow combat
X: [okay, this one I dunno. it's not even my favorite FF but I can't think of anything GLARING]
XII: severely underdeveloped plot. you can see the skeleton of something interesting but it's never fleshed out and then the game just ends, as if they were working on 1/4 the cutscene budget they needed. also super forgettable
XIII: underdeveloped plot, dull combat
XIV: poor optimization and lag issues. quest NPCs should not take a minute to show up while everything else around me loads (also, loading quest NPCs should be prioritized over random background objects and non-interactible NPCs). also I got so sick of getting hit by AoE attacks when, on my screen, I was yards outside the circle (but everyone else on team said that on their screens, I was standing in the attack)
T: plot goes off the rails in act IV when they shoehorn in a stock save-the-world plot
TA: Marche sux, cast sux, plot sux, job tree lacks depth

Nah I killed Kraken rather easily IIRC

I just thought the game was a little bit too hohum and dry and difficult to engage in, II at least had a pretty interesting plot even if the gameplay itself was kinda dull

I know Red Mage is largely from 8-bit theatre but I really do love FFI. Nostalgia but still...! Second favorite after X.

I really need to get past the prologue of 12...and 13...and open 15...why do I keep buying games I have no time to play.

I'm all in on the glaring game.

FF: doesn't age well, but forgivable, it did start it.
II: dumbest gameplay decision in history
III: UNLEASH THE KRAKEN!!!! (How the fuck did that fight become a thing.
IV: Story hits its absolute apex on Mt Ordeals and never reaches that again.
V: Disjointed story. Enemy is a tree. Sacrifice meant nothing.
VI: WoR
VII: It's not Ocarina of Time....
VIII: It's not VII.... ok, fine. The story collapses disk 3 and so does Squall's character.
IX: Tetra Master so much worse than Triple Triad.
X: Seymour has way too much screen time for all the backstory everyone had with Jecth and Sin
XII: Basch for Vaan as main character at last second.
XIII: Fucking Lightning
XV: The best 60% complete game ever.
T: The story goes off the rails at one point from a really cool War of the Roses emulation too whatever the fuck you want to say Ultima would be.

That is some glaring flaw choice for 7

7 is admittedly the least flawed game in the franchise, imo. The graphics suck nowadays, but graphics are such a minor negative to focus on. Also, 7 of the 9 PCs are good, so there's that too.

Eh I could probably pick a couple things though your definition of glaring might vary. The translation is messy even if some find it charming. It literally has a spot that tells you to attack an enemy the one time you never want to attack it though thankfully the game is super easy (it being so easy could also be a flaw for some).

2 characters you could pretty easily miss recruiting (not really a thing these days with the internet being so amazing)

Materia can make everybody feel the same aside from limit breaks (other games in the series have this sort of issue to an extent too)

Graphics seriously hurt some scenes (Cloud in hospital being the biggest offender)

Some of the "mini-games" are terrible even if they're optional and not too long

Then again I guess playing Tales of Symphonia before FFX helped because that game tries WAY too hard to be FFX

same concept that helps the aging of N64 games unless you get to detailed atrocities like Aidyn Chronicles

The only possible Glaring flaw it could have would be that it's not the best game ever.

Half-Life 2 is the best game ever.

Actually, Orange Box contains Portal, HL2, HL2:E1, and HL2:E2 (and TF2, I guess). So Orange Box is the best.

So the translation isn't a flaw for the game, just the English translation of it... (also I was never confused by the tail thing).

Secret characters are just that. Secret.

They shouldn't be the easiest thing ever.

Basketball game only bad mini game (and admittedly it is terrible.)

Orange Box doesnt include the best Valve game though, and after playing through HL1 I think I like it more than 2

They didn't ask for flaws (I just gave one for example).' They asked for GLARING flaws. Of which VII itself has none in a vacuum. So it seems online glaring flaw is that it's not Ocarina of Time.

I'd have an easier time convincing my wall to grow legs and walk to the grocery store for me than I'd have trying to have a reasonable discussion with you. I mean you're so fanatical you think all your game opinions are objective facts

8 is fine aside from character models looking super blurry outside cutscenes. In terms of how they aged preference I'd probably go 9 > 7 > 8 just for how characters look.

at the time sure FF8 would look more advanced than FF7, but as the years pass 8's graphics are a complete mess now, I'll take FF7's clean basic coloured blocks over 8's jagged shapes with spotty texture rasterization easily

As a member of the Every Contest Club, Rikku has done well most of the time and has never really come close to getting booted. She has twelve top 25 finishes (and very narrowly missed making it thirteen this year) in nineteen contests, with seven of those being top tens. She's also the only character with at least three top five finishes who's never made the finals, though she came close in CXIV. With this performance, Rikku rises slightly from 72.35% to 72.49%, holding steady at 11th place as the highest ranked FFX character.

Rikku's numbers are even better in the New Era, to the point that she actually drops despite the good finish. She falls from 84.01% to 82.51%, staying at 6th place and remaining the highest ranked FFX character in the New Era as well. In the Old Era, Rikku was at 67.86%, between Gilgamesh and Freya for 15th place. She was the third highest ranked FFX character then, so she's moved up a decent bit since then.

In the New Era, no. Even if he won the whole thing, he'd fall just a little short. In the overall, Tidus can enter into a virtual tie (with Rikku less than a hundredth ahead) if he finishes 20th. Anything better than 20th and he passes her.

VIII legit had better graphics than IX when it came out. But IX's cartoonish graphics aged better, and VIII's realistic graphics have not.

Not really. Most of the work done on FF7 (PS4) and FF9 (PC/PS4/mobile) is on the back-end, improving load times, game speed, that sort of thing. FF7 features a 3x speed option, while FF9 has a 5x option. The games all feature 3D models rendered at a higher resolution than on a PS1, so both 8 and 9, which have more complex models, have more significant, noticeable improvements. The backgrounds for all games were prerendered video, and unfortunately most of the art has been lost, so the backgrounds are just upscaled from what they were on PS1.

keep in mind viewing old PS1 images on a phone screen that's likely 1440p with a high PPI will make the game look worse than it would on the CRT it was intended for
