When I was a kid I would have whooped the kids ass that stole my bike, but now as a man i realize that that accomplishes nothing but perpetuating the cycle and not everyone is perfect and maybe he needed it more than me so I can forgive him for his faults, be happy for him, and move on with my life. That takes a bigger man.

That kid is ahead of the curve tbh. It's basically seeing the bigger picture of things than just getting mad (or offended) that someone wronged you. it's maturity. not everyone understands it and its ok if you don't but it's just another way of thinking. Its not wrong, its just different. No need to destroy the kid.

What a mature and forgiving person. You should give out your address and social security number because obviously people who would take from you need it more than you do.

Ah, so you're a hypocrite who can't abide by your own words. People like you always are.

yeah and people quick to jump down other's throats like you often fail to see the actual point.

The point is, if you agree with this comic, then you'd give out credit card numbers and personal information because there are surely people on here who need it more than you.

The point is shown. Be the big man and give out your address and social security number. I'm sure you'll forgive anything that happens to you.

Ok I'm not gonna purposely harm myself to prove something. That's stupid. That is most definitely not the point.

The point is you don't always have to play the victim, EVEN if someone does wrong you. Shit happens deal with it, learn from it and move on. the example of the kid getting his bike jacked is a poor one because it does somewhat encourage stealing but the kid has the right mental attitude and I bet he grows up to be a happy, successful adult in life.

I bet the Equifax data breach cost that kid all his personal information and left him tens-of-thousands of dollars in fraudulent debt, but he didn't call or do anything to dispute it because he knows the average happiness in the world went up.

Again I'm not agreeing with the part about letting the thieves get away with stealing with no repercussions but just the mindset of the kid who has something shitty happen to him. A lot of shitty things happen to us in life but if we can maintain that 'bigger picture' mindset and think outside of just ourselves we can move past it better, and not be bitter losers.

The most successful people in life know to look out for number one. And it's about the right people. Depending on who they are some people are more beneficial for you to forgive than others.

successful as far as what? not everyone defines success the same way

That's not the point and being happy for the criminal is not the right attitude. That's an attitude of enabling. Your perspective is actually the selfish one because it's more concerned about mental manipulation to make yourself feel better instead of thinking about how this other person is affecting society.

Everyone should really shut the fuck up with these claims. Anyone who's ever read through all my posts in any thread about those topics EVER, and thus understands the context behind them, knows that I haven't. Unless, like I've said before, you have a really fucked up definition of the word "defends".

Sad thing is.....people actually do believe this shit.

My sister acted like that when her phone got ripped out of her hand by someone when she was in Chicago on vacation.

The cherry on top is the fact that it was shared by one of my middle school friends who turned into this self-proclaimed "intellectual" when in reality, he does nothing but post in political Facebook arguments all day.

You're really getting mad about the world view of a kid who's probably between 12 - 14? Come on dude, not worth it.

*inhales deeply*

Muffinz0rz posted...

I guess that was vague -- we were friends when we were in middle school.

Now I'm a gainfully employed college grad while he's still struggling with community college because he spends so much time shitposting on Facebook.

He's basically telling us a positive thought process that can be followed in order to better cope with a situation. Once something is done, it's done. It doesn't matter what it is. It's a sunk cost. Be as positive about it as you can. It's good for you.

It's not about you harming yourself. It's about you raising the world's happiness. Surely if you don't see it as harming yourself you can make the world better. But is it that you're actually too selfish and hypocritical to follow your own logic?

Why are you assuming the world is better if the victim lives in a state of impotent acceptance? Maybe the world would be better if we hunted down that asshole thief and cut off their hands, so they can't steal anyone else's bike.
