Thinking of getting back into a.c. after the recent praise for origins.

But only own a ps4. I can play ac unity on it but not rogue. Is it on the ps4 as a download or part of a collection or something?

It's backwards compatible on the Xbox One.

This, but it's weird because you can't actually purchase it using your console. IIRC it shows up in the online store, but tells you that you have to purchase it using a PC.

There are a few games like this and I have no idea why

It is weird, considering how Ubisoft tends to re-release every game they've ever made each year

Is Rogue worth playing? I never knew it existed and only noticed it a few weeks ago.

It's basically an expansion of AC4.

For what it's worth, the story is actually pretty interesting as you're playing an assassin-turned-Templar

And yet it seems to be among the more lower scoring a.c. titles

Those same reviewers gave creed 3 a 88 metascore. And like I said it came on the same day as unity so everyone was comparing it to that which dimmed rogues shine.

Uh, no... It definitely has naval combat. Not only that, but they made some improvements to it. I'm pretty sure there's even more naval combat in Rogue than in Black Flag, since its two maps (River Valley and North Atlantic) are probably bigger than BF's.

The worst thing about Rogue is that its story is extremely short: Only 6 sequences compared to BF's 13. The bulk of the game is side activites, which I actually loved. They added things like renovations for increased income, capturing enemy forts (both naval and land), and more interesting collectibles like the cave paintings.

bro how can you say its the best ass creed game when you obviously haven't played it lol. naval combat is just as intergral as it was in black flag.

It was basically the game everyone wanted (play as a Templar) and it was great but could've been so much more.

Do you think it's worth waiting to see if they release a collection port of the game?

I doubt they'd do another HD collection. If they did, it would probably be III, Liberation HD, and Rogue. Not sure how they'd handle Black Flag though. It's already available on current gen, but it's such a huge piece of the Americas timeline that it wouldn't make sense to exclude it.

In any case, Liberation is fucking terrible and Rogue has a ridiculously short story, so AC III would be the only HD game worth waiting for. I say just go ahead and play it now.

I think to its benefit, because it cuts out all the bullshit of padding and tutorials. The missions were generally more varied than in Black Flag, which I found a bit of an annoyance with the overabundance of tailing missions.

Ehh... In a way.

The problem I have with it is that they give you so many upgrades and investment opportunities to earn through side activities, but nothing meaningful to use them on. Taking over parts of the map and collecting things was fun in itself, but most of the rewards (aside from the lore-related ones) feel pointless since you only really get to use them to complete more sidequests.

I still loved the game and dumped enough time into it this year to get 100% synch, but it's disappointing that like 90% of my play time had nothing to do with the story. I thought the story actually could have used more padding, especially in the beginning. Shay barely spends any time as an Assassin. Showing more of his relationship with Liam, Achilles, Kesegowase, etc. would have made his "betrayal" and his confrontations with them a lot more impactful imo.

Still wondering how long I should hold off, since surprisingly Ubisoft hasn't made any collection for the ps4 when so many others ported their games to it. Also it's been 4 years, the bunch of collections should be out by now just like with the ps3. Right?
