I've said this before and I'll say it again

I've never known a Sonic fan who didn't come from some kind of a broken home. I'm not even saying that with any kind of snarkiness, everyone I've met who describes themselves as a Sonic fan came from an abusive househould, or their dad ran away when they were really young, or etc. I even brought this up with a Sonic fan and he was like "...Shit, you're right too."

So the idea of mediocrity comforting those products of broken homes makes a lot of sense, really. When you come from a broken home, the lows are terrible and you know any high points will get taken away from you and make you feel worse than before they happened, so a steady stream of "okay" is what you hope for.

I come from a fine home and I was a sonic fan back in the day. we just owned a genesis and that was that.

I dunno I was in a pretty broken home with a constantly bedridden parent but I was never crazy about Sonic

as for the two friends I had back in the day who liked Sonic a lot one of them kept going between two homes and the other one wasn't in a broken home but he was a weird weeb metalhead

though how does this explain the people who played even all the "greats" as well but still liked Sonic more

People on the spectrum tend to gravitate towards Sonic as the characters aren't very complex and often just have one defining trait with a color specific to their design. It's extremely easy to categorize everything so it draws that kind of people, much like Minecraft.

Yeah, I was going to post just that. A good friend of mine at the hospital I work at is a pediatrician that works with a lot of kids with autism, and he's mentioned that Sonic is extremely popular among that demographic no matter the socioeconomic group, and that's a group that you can't blame nostalgia on either.

I know. Same with Simpsons, South Park, and Family Guy. Don't know anyone who didn't come from a trashy household that likes them.

I've always thought that Sonic fans are like D-class Disney. Official Disney stuff was not in their parents price range, but Sonic stuff was.
