This is the worst one ever....
Nothing else even close.

The player catches the ball. And then he runs with it AT LEAST SIX YARDS and 3 steps. Note. He has control, there is no debate he has control, the ball isn't moving at all. THIS WAS NOT CALLED A CATCH!!!!!!!!

The ground can cause a fumble in 2 instances.

1: a QB giving himself up (which is totally by god stupid by the way... since you mark him down where he starts his damn slide, the play should be dead and no ground fumble possible, it's either a live ball or dead...
2 a runner going to the ground without any contact by the defender (since he isn't down because there was no contact)

The play is dead the moment the QB begins to slide. He could only fumble if he does anything other than slide, I guess, like if he were to try to dive for extra yardage and the ball popped out.

See I dont think thats a fumble because the ground cant cause a fumble, except I guess in this one specific case.

What a mess.

Are you sure?

I definitely saw a college game last year (want to say Arizona St) where the QB slid to the ground, had control of the ball, but he landed awkwardly and the ball knocked it out and the other team recovered for a turnover.

Ground can cause a fumble if there's no contact, since then the runner isn't down

Nah... it's definitely a fumble....

There is nothing there to end the play. Had he held on to the ball the ref wouldn't have blown the whistle to end the play. It would be like falling to the ground and then just rolling the ball away from you, it's still a live ball.

That shouldn't be possible in college at all because the play is over as soon as the runner hits the ground.

How...

Pray tell what should end the play there?

What was the process that the ball went from a live ball to a dead ball? What game State changed?

I think the pro rule that the play MUST end by contact is stupid.

The college rules that being down by any means is when the play ends is way better and safer to boot.

Im just saying what I saw. Hence my anger the last year at the stupidity that you can give yourself up causing a dead ball but still being fuxked over on a turnover.

Well, it doesn't have to end in contact in the NFL if the runner clearly gives himself up, but that wouldn't have been the case in this instance.

Fair enough.

I usually do agree with this, but I hate it when receivers make a catch on their knees and they can't try to advance despite the fact no one is around.
