Apartment complexes always have their tenants get their rooms inspected so they make sure you're not destroying the place. But also to check fire alarms and vents etc...for legal/insurance purposes as much as anything. It's to make sure you're not trashing the place or keeping too many people there. Example of both: my next door neighbors at one point had ten people living in a one bedroom apartment. They also constantly had trash piled around their front door with pizza boxes stacked as tall as a small child.
