Say you have people working under you, can initiative be crafted from potential? Or is it just a ingrained trait that you can hopefully pickup on before you hire them?

People are good at bullshitting their way though life.

Most will at the start then slow it down later. Unless you have someone who would tell you whos good or not its all a chance.

Not like a lot will be honest with the boss compared to with other employes.

Be the manager that you'd want to work for. Be clear and firm when setting goals and communicating performance. Outline your disciplinary measures long before you have to use them.

You can't make anyone have intiative. They will have it or don't. Some people just don't care about where they work. The worst that you can do is not reward people who have the intiative because they will start looking for other jobs.

Yes but let's say you have a team of salespeople. You can reward the one or people who sell the most.
