Nes

Mario bros 3 is not possible on gameboy. Probs not even mario bros 1 or 2.

The first Mario bros was ported to gameboy color and mario bros 2 and 3 were ported to the gameboy advance.

Another few games that come to mind that the gameboy couldn't do would be turtles II arcade and turtles III, contra and mother 1.

The Gameboy is more powerful in some aspects and weaker in others.
The Gameboy can handle more sprites per line, but shows less sprites on the screen.
It can update the tiles quicker than the Nes
The LCD screen is slower and got a lower resolution than what the Nes connects to.
The Nes handles more code per clock cycle, but the Gameboy got a higher clockspeed to compensate this.
Powerwise they are pretty close to each other, but the Gameboy cant show it because of its LCD screen.

In some aspects. The Nes could still show more sprites on the screen and the Gameboy Color was still stuck at a lower resolution, but if we look at pure power, then the GBC is more powerful.
The GBC had a Hi-Color Mode that just a handful of games used, like The New Addams Family.

It runs at the lower clockspeed when it plays normal Gameboy games, which is as fast as the normal Gameboy CPU.
The more than twice as fast clockspeed is used for GBC games.

In theory, 2048 different colors at the same time.

is the more than twice as fast clockspeed also used for dual format gbc games?these games can be played on normal gameboy which runs at its normal clockspeed, if they are played on gameboy color, does gameboy color run at the higher clockspeed or the lower one? if it's the higher clockspeed, gameboy color plays them twice as fast as gameboy, correct?

I guess that it runs them at the higher clockspeed but they are only using that extra power for the extra colors, which makes the games run at the same speed.
I want to remember that some games had a bonus dungeon or something like that while being played on a GBC, but I cant remember any examples.
