I work on the road, and had to fill out some papers in my car, in between customers today. So I stopped at a park to do so with a nice view. I know nobody plays Go anymore, but I recently picked it up for first time since last year because I heard they were adding in Gen 3 Pokemon for a Halloween event to check it out. Anyway, I was at this park about 20 minutes filling out paper, then before I left I opened Pokemon Go real quick to see if it was a Pokestop or anything. Turns out it was a Gym, and I was able to take it over pretty easily.
So like, I was pretty much the only person I saw in the park at the time, but within 5 minutes of fighting the gym, I see a car with some dude coming in, pulls up into the lot. A minute or two later, I get a notification saying my Vaporeon is getting weak and needs berries. I open the game back up, gym was already flipped back to another team, and the guy in the car is driving away lol.

I mean holy shit. I knew the handful of people still playing took that game seriously, but fucking come on lol. It wasn't even in a neighborhood, it was off a fairly major road.

this. spoofing is still a thing so people can just sit at home and take/maintain gyms.

Idk, I'm just blown away someone came racing in via car to play a video game for 30 seconds and then leave lol. Like, if I had a day off from work, there's not a lot of stuff that would make me suddenly run out the door like that. Pokemon isn't one of them lol.
