The trick is to have multiple tiers of candy. The normal "fun size" things for mediocre/storebought costumes, full size bars for good costumes with real effort put into them, and one or two king size bars for the real standouts.

(don't actually do this, you don't want to make a kid cry because their costume isn't as good as their friend's costume so they get less candy.)

I just got a box of stuff at Costco. There are never many trick-or-treaters in this neighborhood, too many evangelicals in this town that are afraid to celebrate Halloween. So I figured we might as well be "that house," since we'll have leftovers anyway.

There were 8 total that game by this year, and all (besides the little girl that was terrified of the gorilla mask) were pretty happy they came to our door.
