A product can only flop if it sells less than the cost. In order to sell the product, it'll have to get released first.

Considering how much money they poured into it, it has to be a flop because everyone's expecting it to be perfect.

Take HL3 for example. If it ever gets released, it will still be a flop even if it easily wins game of the decade.
Because people built up monumental expectations which could never be met.

Probably. However, when I used the statement "flop like no man sky" I was meaning in terms of disappointment vs hype. No man Amy sold loads of copies but was one of the worst games ever. Will that game really have all that stuff it claims or will it just be a hollow shell at the end?

maybe i've missed the hype train for star citizen but the only way it'd flop like NMS is if the hype train took off with it and the devs fully embraced and started openly lying/misleading people about what the game will/can do. <_<

Depends what you constitute "a flop". The makers have already collected MASSIVE revenues without even finishing the game. That, surely, already makes it a success in terms of business.

NMS is a great game.

For it to be a flop in either a commercial or hype sense it has to come out, which it wont.
