Apparently, she was very weak as she had not eaten for several hours and was sleeping on the footpath under the shadow of a tree, when Siva, in an inebriated condition, assaulted her sexually, Suresh was quoted as saying. The officer pointed out that the crowd who merely watched the crime unfold could have at least tried to do something, considering the victim was said to be too weak to even scream for help. Instead, some of them were more interested in capturing the incident on their mobile phones. After some time, an auto driver, RG Srinu, shot a short video of it and brought it to our notice, he added. In the footage obtained by the authorities, people can be seen walking past the area while the drunk man sexually assaulted his victim. It clearly shows how the people have become insensitive to attacks on women, Suresh said, noting that the driver who submitted the video could have stopped the rape instead. Suresh stated that the officers rushed to the scene upon learning about the crime, but Siva had already fled on his bike.
