A majority of whites say discrimination against them exists in America today, according to a poll released Tuesday from NPR, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

"If you apply for a job, they seem to give the blacks the first crack at it," said 68-year-old Tim Hershman of Akron, Ohio, "and, basically, you know, if you want any help from the government, if you're white, you don't get it. If you're black, you get it."

More than half of whites 55 percent surveyed say that, generally speaking, they believe there is discrimination against white people in America today. Hershman's view is similar to what was heard on the campaign trail at Trump rally after Trump rally. Donald Trump catered to white grievance during the 2016 presidential campaign and has done so as president as well.

Notable, however, is that while a majority of whites in the poll say discrimination against them exists, a much smaller percentage say that they have actually experienced it. Also important to note is that 84 percent of whites believe discrimination exists against racial and ethnic minorities in America today.

He describes losing out on a promotion and a younger African-American being selected as one of the finalists for the job. But the position eventually went to a white applicant, who was also younger than Hershman.

What are the percentages for this?

Of the white people who applied for jobs, 19% say they didn't get it because of discrimination.

Of those working, 13% say they weren't paid equally or lost out on promotions because of discrimination.

While applying to or at college, 11% say they faced discrimination.

So whites collectively acknowledge that minorities get the major shaft, and despite very few of them actually experiencing discrimination themselves, are under the impression that whites are also occasionally discriminated against.

The only ones to lambast are in the 16% who think minorities don't get discriminated against and the 55% that whites do.

I'm not speaking for every white person but I experience it weekly in my line of work, it's definitely a real thing when your a white person that works loss prevention in a black neighborhood. The racism is off the charts

That study is from 2016. The 2004 study is the one that originally found that black names were discriminated against. But LOL.
