A game that doesn't try to look like a cartoon, nor does it try to look photorealistic like TP.

A game looking like this:

Some of this guy's early work has amazing backdrops but the facial models look creepy, but look at that grass and stones! :

TP had this almost digitized look to it, the unreal engine zelda looks realistic but the characters have a slightly whimsical character to them:

it's a common theme with the N64 classics. Nintendo was on top of the industry, had nearly bottomless resources and people like miyamoto were on their prime and were provided basically a blank check to do whatever they wanted. On top of that perfect alignment of conditions, gaming was transitioning from 2D to 3D, which provided an opportunity to make a much stronger impression

I don't know why TP gets all this criticism. Was it perfect? Hell no. Was it as good as OoT? Nothing will ever be. I particularly hated its rushed-feeling ending. It was still a good game, and I really enjoyed it.

Ironically I feel games like wind waker get a pass because people try to be edgy so they defend the cartoony style, but I really don't dig it, not to mention wind waker had sluggish sailing and a vastly oversized overworld.

The only reason OoT has that middle-of-the-road style is that the immaturity of the 3D graphics at the time didn't lend to either WW or TP's styles. They could have aimed for either one and still wound up with what it was.

OoT is great but the nostalgia it benefits from is overwhelming. If you swapped it and TP in time, everyone would love TP.

I disagree with this. TP has pacing issues that I think a lot of people would complain about even if it came out when OoT did.

Very true. It seems most are incapable of seeing its faults. I loved the fuck out of OoT when it came out. But it's been surpassed so much even within the franchise itself much less in the development of 3D games.

The great use of the style of WW's graphic and imaginative world lend it to be better as time has passed. It doesn't try to "one up" from previous installments and remains it's own without the crutch of comparison. To me it did what no other 3D Zelda game has done up to BotW.

Yes, OoT was middle of the road because back then it was just standard graphics, without being cartoony or realistic. This also explains why Super Mario Bros, Super Mario 64 and the original Street Fighter 2 weren't cartoony either (their successors, such as Street Fighter Alpha were).

I feel this unreal engine project finds a good middle of the road experience.

Literally Majora's Mask, The Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess all had tie-ins to Ocarina of Time ranging from subtle to extremely direct. And all of them basically reference the story that took place in Ocarina. Besides, TP was its spiritual successor IMO. Almost to the point where it kind of lost itself in trying to replicate the Ocarina experience.

For some reason the human/kokiri/hylian faces creep me out a bit, especially the kokiri's eyes, I don't know why. But I still love this style.

OoT will be remade eventually. 3ds is like a pretty port more than a true remake. i would like to see like a botw version of OoT.

expand the maps so each area is a lot bigger. add in the botw mechanics. still have the dungeons be real puzzles and give a key item. add in some bonus dungeons and bosses. it won't happen but i'd enjoy it. maybe the system after the switch we might get a real OoT HD remake.

i guess my hope is BotW 2(or whatever) goes back to being more puzzle and key item based. i miss the hookshot and the dungeons actually being fun. BotW had no enemies in the dungeons besides like those skull things. boss fights were good but we need more enemies in the dungeons and a mini boss. or at least keep the 3ds as the true zelda style as it is.

This would be amazing. Just keep it non-cartoony, even BOTW is too cartoony to be OoT-like
