I've never played the SMT games but I like Persona a lot, I may gave this a shot. How similar/different is it from a Persona game?

The battle system is similar, but that's really it.
There's no sim elements in SMT at all, it plays like a more traditional JRPG

Sounds like I should grab it.

Why can't Personabros and SMTbros be happy for each other? Both are awesome series.

I enjoy both but for different reason. I started with the main line games around when Nocturne came out but have played and liked pretty much every one of the spin offs over the years as well. Hyped for Strange Journey Redux since the original was an excellent, if frustrating, game.

You may be aware of this already, but Persona 5 threw out its random persona gain mechanic for a direct implementation of the mainline SMT negotiation.

I didn't, actually! I started out the series with Persona 3 & Persona 4, and by the time P5 came out my interest had mostly shifted towards the mainline games; I'm definitely gonna get around to playing Persona 5 eventually, but it's not really a must-play at the moment. At this point in time, I'm actually mostly interested in trying out the Persona 2 duology...

We both know this isn't true. You must not know how few sales the Switch has in comparison. I agree with everything else you said, but hell no what you said isn't "fact."

It's pretty funny that Persona became more mainstream than SMT. I guess it's probably because of the social links stuff added to P3.
