And they are punished for it. There have been so many shitty flops and some good movies flopping too because of poor decisions.

Movies that were particularly fun, well made, creative or fresh have largely done well still. but many bad movies or poorly promoted ones have bombed and many succesful (especially ones of poor quality) are seeing diminishing returns such as Transformers.

The age of the internet is making people more aware of when a movie is going to be bad. They hear about the shitshows behind the scenes and read the reviews. Hollywood will continue to have more and more bombs if they don't change. Budget bloat is another problem. It's fine to spend 200$ million+ on the avengers but who thought it was a good idea to spend 175$ million on a King Arthur movie and make it some kind of generic action movie?

IT had a budget of 35 million. It has grossed 651 million. That's about 18 times it's budget. They did just about everything right and on a smaller budget than several movies that grossed less on budgets 3-6 times larger.

They're all coming out, but nobody is surprised. We have known this shit was happening since Judy Garland, we all just kept our heads in the sand for the sake of entertainment. Now that entertainment has become a limp shadow of its former self and they deserve to burn. Like two major release movies have been good this year, that's awful. The moguls being convicted of this shit have become fat and lazy and think we will suck up whatever crap they throw at us and make the actors deal with the abuse. It's time for change and this is the kindling for that flame of change.

Hollywood has the vast majority of it's decision making and financial powers consolidated into a relatively small group of people. It also has relatively few job openings and a large pool of applicants. As a result, the people in power can play hardball with the job pool because until you are established star, you can very easily be replaced. If you want too much pay, they can replace you with someone who would gladly take the pay they are willing to offer.

With an unscrupulous individual, this can easily lead to non-monetary "negotiations". If a young actress doesn't want to sleep with a producer, he can threaten to fire her because he can find someone who will. It certainly doesn't help that most actors and actresses are young, often under-educated, and attractive. Which makes them more susceptible to sexual harassment.
