The Weimar Republic had strict gun control laws prior to the rise of the Nazi party, and that when the they came into power they loosened the restrictions for party members and the military. They tightened regulations on those deemed "unreliable", specifically the Jews and Communists, while they also refused to issue them a permit to manufacture guns or ammo. After Kirstallnacht the disarmament went into the next level as they pulled weapons from the Jews specifically. However various paramilitary groups and party members were still allowed to carry.
