They don't need more than one or two people at the store at a time if it were fully automated. I used to work for McDonald's and everything was fully automated like a factory line, except that we did the work. The coffee machine was just a click of a button, the exact amount of ketchup went into each burger, the patties were all heated for a certain time, etc. They only need people for restocking and maintenance such as cleaning the bathroom. The reality is that the world will eventually become more automated. Labor is more expensive, but I think machines would pay for themselves.

its; on it's way to that, at least in canada. I was in canada recently and all the mcdonalds I visited had kiosks where you order without talking to anyone. and then the humans just hand the food to you
