You stare at the tower pensively. However, your thoughts are interrupted by the sounds of Sky stirring about. You quickly run to her.

Sky sits up and rubs her eyes. Wh...what happened? she says faintly.

The thrones open now, you say. Our path is open now, too, you say while pointing to the sky.

She looks over to the tower. Is that...the gateway to the Gods?

You nod. Yeah. And I believe this is where we part ways, Queen Sky.

Sky quickly stands up and grabs your sleeve. Wait! She looks to the floor. I...I may be next in line for the throne, but its not my time yet. She looks at you with her fierce, determined face. Besides, I owe you a big favor now for dealing with Mother.

You pause for a bit, then shrug her arm off your sleeve. Alright. But if I have to fight you again, I really will kill you.

She grins. And then youll bring me and everyone else back once you win, right?

You dont say anything and turn around, smiling faintly. So, will you fly us there?

She tries to adjust her hat out of habit, but realizes it isnt there. Instead, she just turns to her crewmates and gives them a hand signal.

Immediately, the ship starts to ascend. Once it gets high above the Capital walls, Bahamut swoops next to it from above.

Green! You are seeing this tower as well, right?! says Bahamut.

Yeah. Its finally time to meet the Gods, you say.

Bahamut gives a great big flap of his wings. Im looking forward to meeting them, then! And dont even think of saying I cant come--youre letting the Humans come along.

You got me there, you say while putting a hand behind your head.

The tower wasnt far off; youre pretty much already here. You notice that theres a strange wind current surrounding the tower that is sending you upwards, kind of like an elevator.

Captain! says one of the crewmen. Were stuck! We cant get out of this wind!

Thats fine! We wanna be here, anyway! shouts Sky.

Bahamut is just relaxing his wings as he lets the wind carry him up.

Blue flies next to you. This is it, Green. I think were almost at the end of it all. How do you feel?

You reminisce over everything thats happened so far--everyone youve fought; the first hero you killed, his mage partner, the mayor, Asshat-1 and the Goblin King, the Paladin, the Crimson Knight, the Monster King Dracula, The Queenyou look at your level and remember everyones XP that went into this. You were a simple Slime. Youve faced the consequences of trying to be anything else. Now, youre seeing it to the end. How do you feel? Blues words echo in your head.

You shrug.

Blue smirks a little. I suppose theres no changing your mind at this point?

You smirk back. Blue, Im stubborn as shit. You know this.

Suddenly your vision is obstructed by bright, dense clouds. You can still feel yourself ascending. You also feel a warm light embracing you--the same warmth that comes from XP orbs.

[Cursed artifacts relinquished!]

Your vision finally returns to you, only for it to be filled by a white, blank, endless void. You look to the ground--there is no ground, yet you feel like youre standing on something regardless. You look around you; everyones gone. The only thing that stands out is the black silhouette of a human standing just ahead of you.

Welcome, Green, the silhouette says. Their voice sounds deep and husky, much like how the young hero sounds like from your vision.

You try to speak, but no words come out. You cant move either.

You struggle to move your body, but no matter what you do, you cant control a single inch of your body. You wonder where your friends went.

Their levels werent high enough, so sadly, they cant join you in this final confrontation, says the silhouette while forming a devilish grin. Where they are? That doesnt matter now. What levels have to even do with anything? Absolutely nothing. I simply decided on a whim that you need to be a certain level. After all, I decide everything on a whim. Isnt this fun?

You dont say anything. All you can do is stare at the silhouette with tense brows and cold eyes as it approaches you. Even up close, theyre still an entirely shadowy figure with no details other than a mouth.

I suppose I should let you know--this silhouette isnt actually me. I simply took this form as something you can comprehend. I could be a lion, a towering demon, or even the form shifts into you, but dyed with black. ...a certain Slime.

You regain the ability to move and immediately try to reach for your Cursed Sword, only to find that all of your belongings are gone. You see the silhouette waving it around.

Looking for this? he says as he throws it to you. You can have it. I can always make a hundred more of those, he says while conjuring one in his hand. I havent even introduced myself, have I? How rude of me. He bows. Im Baal, as you may have already guessed. He starts clapping. I must commend you for entertaining me so far. Being this powerful gets boring, after all. He points his sword at you. However, I hear you wish to kill me? I welcome you to try--no, Im begging you to do so. He grits his teeth. Theres nothing good about being a God. I reset everything in hopes that everything would be better, but barely anything has changed. History repeated itself. You cant change fate, no matter what you do. He takes a step forward, still holding his sword towards you. With that said, I wont hand over my Godhood to just anyone. I set out the Cursed artifacts as a way to gather candidates. Youre the first one here, Green. He widens his stance and holds his sword above him. Now, will you be the one to kill me?

You shrug.

You pick up the sword and point it at him as you stare at him dead in where his eyes would be

He stares back.

Both of you disappear, leaving only your afterimages.

You clash blades with his--the dark hue of your sword matching his. The clash creates a shockwave which warps the scenery around you. Suddenly, you find yourself in the ruins of Town_1; the same place you fought the mayor, though there is no one here but you and Baal.

Baal jumps to the rooftops and runs along them, casting a hail of fireballs at you.
You run parallel to him, dragging the Cursed Sword along the ground which infuses it with magic. The magical line shoots out Icicle Spears that meet with Baals fireballs. You sweep the ground with the sword, creating a circle. Out comes a giant Icicle Spear which you surf on towards Baal.

He jumps forward to meet you head on, clashing swords with you once again and creating another warping shockwave.

The scenery changes to the Goblin Den as you find the rooftops replaced with tall trees.

The clash pushes you off of the Icicle Spear, leaving both you and Baal falling freely.

However, Baal sprouts a pair of wings and flies high above, then speeds downwards, grabbing you midway. He crashes you into the ground, leaving you there as he flies up once again.

You get up, unscathed from that attack thanks to your shock absorption. You find your sword fallen next to you, along with a peculiar kazoo. You pick up your sword, then the kazoo. Upon doing so, they vanish, and suddenly you find yourself with one angel wing on your left side. You look up to see Baal pointing his sword downwards and ready to crash down again. You cast Scorch upon the surrounding trees, burning everything in the vicinity and fogging the air with smoke and ash, which stops Baals advance. With that, you clumsily fly straight up into the clouded sky with your sword pointing up, but having one wing doesnt make the flight very stable. By literal blind luck, you clash swords with him once again, which warps the scenery again.

Now you find yourself on the ground of the Cathedral of Town_2. As you reorient yourself from the abrupt change, Baal rushes at you, now with two swords in his hands, and unleashes a flurry of slashes. Youre caught off guard and your forearm is slightly wounded--a slight burning sensation flows through you. However, you dont let this get to you and start deflecting his attacks, but one sword can only do so much to defend against this as you get pushed back.

Baal sends you sliding backwards with a strong cross-slash.

You crash into some pews. Among the pile of broken wood that resulted from the crash, you find a peculiar cane. You pull it out, revealing it to be Purples cane-sword. You see Baal running towards you. You promptly react and zoom towards him. You unleash a flurry of slashes to match his, until both of you execute a cross-slash and clash once again.

You find yourself suspended in the air, surrounded by the walls of the Cave of the Crimson Knight.
He shoves you back, sending you crashing to the rocky wall and creating some smoke. As the smoke from the debris clears up, you see Baal zooming towards you while conjuring a plethora of swords, all of which are also flying towards you. You quickly cast Earth Shatter upwards, sending a stream of cracks that ride up the wall until they get to the ceiling, which drops huge boulders towards Baal and his swords.

The swords are stopped in their tracks, but Baal manages to fly out of the way.

You kick against the wall to boost you forward and notice a peculiar object falling amongst the rocks--the revolver that Purple used. Upon grabbing it, you keep the cane-sword to your side and land on one of the boulders, then jump to another, slowly ascending in altitude until you reach the last one. You stick to its side, then casting an Icicle Spear to surf on. As you ride towards Baal, you unload all six shots of the revolver unto him, but he deflects them. However, that was enough to keep him focused on defending himself and stay still. With that, you successfully clash into him and change scenery once again.

Its Draculas ballroom this time.

Baal ducks down and sweeps your leg, but you react quickly and flip backwards, throwing the revolver in his face while doing so, disorienting him. You hold the cane-sword again and wind up a cross-slash, but Baal tosses a sword at the chandelier above, halting your advance.

He spreads his wings and takes to the air once again.

Among the broken glass of the chandelier, you notice a piece of a dragon scale. Upon touching it, you sprout a scarred dragon wing on your right side. With that, youre able to join Baal in the air, clashing with him once again.

The clash knocks your swords out of your hands and sends you down to the throne of the Queens room you warped to. You notice the gold and silver swords are still crossed on the ground, right in front of you. You grab them and launch to the air, only to see that Baal has conjured a barrage of swords while you were recovering.

He snaps his fingers, which bring all the swords flying to you.

You deflect each of them as best as you can; the afterimages of glimmering gold and silver surrounding you as you do. However, some swords wound you further, nicking your arms and your cheek. The burning sensation gets stronger, but you grit your teeth harder through the pain. The barrage calms down, and you toss the gold sword to the ground, standing it up, then cast Lightning on it to create a magnetic rod and divert all the flying swords to it.

He zooms to you and winds up an overhead swing, crashing you to the ground. You find the Cursed Sword and the cane-sword next to you. You grab the Cursed Sword and launch it up to into Baal. While grabbing the cane-sword, the Cursed Sword clashes against his slash, ringing cacophonously.
The fabric of space around you cracks, then shatters, bringing you back into the white void you began with.

Baal forms a devilish grin as he looks down at your body lying down on the invisible ground.

Impressive, Green. I didnt think youd last this long.

You use the cane-sword and the silver sword to assist you in standing back up, then spread your angel and dragon wings out, and look back up at Baal. Stop messing around. Why wont you face me at full power?

Baal laughs. Green, with a snap of my fingers, I could easily erase you from existence. The reason I use this form and why Im fighting you with this much power is simply he descends, bringing him in front of you. ...for fun. He slashes to your side, but you deflect it upwards using the silver sword. You wanted to know whats the point of being the strongest, right? He uses the momentum of your deflection to do an overhead swing, which you side-step and counter with a stab from the cane-sword. The answer is...there is no point! Its all boring! He redirects your stab to the side and lunges forward to stab you back with a sudden burst of speed.

You couldnt defend yourself against that one. The sword runs through your chest, sending the burning sensation out of control.

Just know that whats waiting for you is solitude! Boredom! He stabs you with another sword to your chest. Everything you once believed in suddenly doesnt matter anymore! He conjures another sword, sending it to your chest. All of your desires can easily be fulfilled! Another sword, this time to your back. Theres no point in trying anymore!

The pain is intolerable now. You're barely keeping your consciousness and your vision is fading.
Baal holds his hands up, conjuring a giant black sword right above you--just like what you did to Dracula. Please, Green. Dont die on me here. Save me. He brings his hands down. Save me from this curse! The sword starts making its way down to you.

Time slows.

You struggle to move. This is a familiar situation youve gotten yourself into so many times now. However, no one can help you here this time. Your companions arent anywhere with you.

You feel a familiar warmth on your hand. They feel a lot like Skys hands. You realize that this warmth is coming from the silver sword. It brings back memories of the conversation you had with her.

Slimes dont feel love, at least not the romantic kind. So she read. A familial kind of love--its what Blue and Purple have demonstrated by sticking with you so far. Its what Bahamut has shown by his tenacity to fight for you. Its the warmth you feel right now on your hand. Theyve been with you this entire fight. Theyve been here to help you the entire time.

You dont have time to agonize over pain. You feel your companions energy surging through your body, mitigating the burning sensation. Slowly, you stand back up and cross your swords above you, intercepting the giant sword. The sound of grinding metal rings out as you struggle to keep the sword at bay.

You grit your teeth. Wit...and you feel a burst of energy shoot through your arms. ...willpower! With sheer force, you cross-slash the giant sword, destroying both of your swords.

The giant sword flips around, bringing its handle right above you.

You quickly grab it--its enormous weight overwhelming you a little. The warmth on your hands become more intense as they start glowing. The sword becomes dyed in silver and its weight suddenly feels just like a feather.

Baal smiles with great joy at this sight. Finally...Im having fun. He conjures another giant sword, but holds it in his hands this time. He swings it upwards.

You tighten your grip and swing your sword down with full force. The resulting clash creates a massive shockwave that starts to form cracks in the void.

This is it, Green, says Baal as his sword shakes in the struggle, are you willing to accept the burden of a God? He starts pushing your sword back, and more cracks form around you. Are you ready to realize that nothings waiting for you at the top?

You continue to give it your all, but its not enough to push Baal back. The glow spreads from your hands to your entire body, and suddenly you feel a great burst of energy flowing within you. You stare straight into Baals silhouette and grit your teeth.

And you shrug.

Baals sword shatters as you drive your sword down into Baal, splitting him in half.

His silhouette cracks, then breaks as though they were shards of glass. Along with him, the void around you cracks even more, until everything shatters.

You stand in complete darkness. All you can see in front of you is an XP orb, only this one is glowing much brighter than the orbs youre used to seeing. Upon touching it, your vision becomes filled with white, and all you can see is a dialogue box pop up in front of you.

{ Reset? }

[>Yes]
[>No]

< It's time for the final choice. >
A) Reset everything. This world is in ruins now. Maybe things might be different, for the better.
B) Bring everyone you've killed back. Things might change a little, but not by a lot. Hierarchy will still exist with Monsterkind, but maybe less extreme. Sky might be able to properly talk to her Mother. Human life will continue as it always has.
C) Bring only the Slimes and your companions back. Sky will take the throne. The Slimes, along with Bahamut, will have to find a place to belong with Monsterkind gone.

I was worried our shrugging power might not be strong enough, glad to see I was wrong

We need to think this through carefully. C seems like the obvious choice but we've killed ALOT of innocent people along the way. Heroes, mayors, hell even Dracula was basically a bro with a bad rap. Only the Queen was a real bitch, and without her Cursed Ring we've largely pulled her teeth. I'm sure Sky can handle her now, especially if we send a certain golden slime bro to back her up.

We casually slaughtered our way across an entire continent to prove we're the strongest. Where's the fun in BEING the strongest if the only people who recognize it love us anyway?

We make the rules now! Maybe we're stuck in this void, but B'aal said he arbitrarily kept others out. We can open the path to anyone we find worthy. Revive EVERYONE, pull Lord Slime, Sky, the Queen, Dracula, and Bahamut to us, then lay down some godly wrath if anyone wants to be a dick.

I guess this is a vote for B?

The sky is filled with balloons and confetti as Humanity crowns their new ruler--Queen Sky.

She emerges from inside the castle wearing a long white dress--nearly the same one that her mother wore. She waves from atop the balcony of her castle, addressing the citizens of the Capital below.
They all cheer for her.

From the sky descends Blue, landing on top of Skys head. She smiles in defeat at this and continues to wave. Dear citizens, I know that tradition has long dictated that Monster and Humans dont get along, and I know that itll take a while before you all come to accept them-- Sky flashes a great smile and holds Blue in the air, but let us all give a warm welcome to our new Slime friends!

Among the citizens, a few Slimes hop around with gusto. The citizens dont seem to mind.

Blue flaps their wings and fly out of Skys hands. Yeesh, lady! Cant you be a little more gentle? They say as they divebomb down into the Citizens.

Sky leans over the balcony, amusedly watching the sight of Blue crowdsurfing.

On behalf of my kind, you have my deepest gratitude once again, Queen Sky, a familiar voice calls out from behind.

Sky looks behind her and sees a certain kingly figure dyed in gold. Well, you have a huge thanks from me as well-- she says while tucking a lock of hair under her ear, --for saving me back then, I mean.

Lord Slime stands next to Sky and leans over the balcony. How do you feel right now?

Sky casually leans against the balcony on her back while looking up at the clouds. Well, it feels pretty good being called the Queen. I could get used to it. She closes her eyes. Its still a little bittersweet; with my mother being dead and all. Even if she did turn crazy, she still raised me.

Lord Slime turns their head to Sky. Do you have any regrets?

Sky opens her eyes and smiles. I dont have time to regret now. Being a ruler is very demanding.

Another figure emerges, running to the balcony. Its Purple. They give a thumbs up at Lord Slime.

Theres our new sculptor! says Lord Slime with glee. I take it that its finished?

Purple nods and runs back inside. Sky and Lord Slime follow behind.

They all run to the garden in the back of the Castle. In the center stands...something. Its covered in a white sheet right now. Purple swipes it off, revealing a statue made of emerald. It depicts you holding the Cursed Sword forward. The statue glimmers gloriously under the sunlight.

Lord Slime claps. You truly do have an eye for perfection, Purple. I applaud you!

Purple puts their hand behind their head and looks away in embarrassment, then faces both of you again and gives you two a thumbs up.

The clock tower rings its bells.

Lord Slime jumps in panic. Oh dear, Purple and I must depart at once.

Oh yeah, Bahamuts party for all the remaining Monsters right? says Sky. Its impressive that he was able to have the Monster Kings castle rebuilt.

Lord Slime nods. Former King, mind you. I dont think that we Monsters have anyone to call King anymore.

Sky raises an eyebrow. Why dont you do it?

Lord Slime motions at Purple, who follows them promptly. You said it yourself. Being a ruler is very demanding. They make their way back to the entrance of the castle.

Sky stares at the statue in silence. She takes out her silver sword and holds it against your statues sword, making contact at the tip. Guess you can hear me, huh? Youd be a pretty lame God if you couldnt. She looks to the sky. Thanks. For everything. Id give a better speech about this, but I know Ill see you again. She impales her sword to the ground in front of your statue and walks away. After all, Im aiming for the top, too. And when get there, maybe youll be less lonely. She looks back at the statue again. What? You dont think I can do it? Cmon, it only takes two things, right?

As she walks away, all that can be seen behind her is the sight of her sword honoring yours--the intertwining fates of a God and a Queen.

She makes her way back to the entrance of the castle, taking one last glance at the statue in the distance. Wit and willpower. Or so youve said.

I know some of you wanted B, and I was planning to write it as a bonus, but honestly I'm pretty drained right now.
Writing this was a fun experience. I don't actually write a lot and I don't usually have the motivation to either, but CYOA's have that quick feedback, interactivity, and also a purge time limit in CE's case. Really helps drive a person. I might do another one in the near future. Look forward to it.

This CYOA got me thinking. You know what I want? I want a JRPG that looks by the numbers, where the eponymous slime creature is the first enemy you face but as it turns out you two become friends and journey together throughout the land.

EDIT: I only read the first couple of entries, so if that does happen in this CYOA then neat.
