It's been a while since I've watched all the other X men and I haven't seen logan since theaters.

So is Logan's time where every mutant is dead but himself and Charles and the few others the same timeline with the other X men movies? X men 1, 2, DoFP, Apocalypse?

So that means the new Phoenix movie following Apocalypse, they all eventually have the same fate in Logan? Doesn't that seem kinda weird to even bother with this movie then?

all the mutants aren't dead, but it seems that way for the X-Men.

Pretty sure Logan is supposed to be set in its own separate timeline.

Its all up for interpretation. Hugh Jackman said its not meant to be the same timeline, the director said he feels it is. Not like they've tried to keep things tight otherwise anyway so its best not to think too much about it.

This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

It does seem like it's in its own separate timeline, moreso to bridge the two different continuums than be isolated though.

"Not only is [Logan] different in terms of timeline and tone, it's a slightly different universe. It's actually a different paradigm and that will become clear ... It's a stand alone movie in many ways. It's not really beholden to timelines and storylines in the other movies. Obviously Patrick Stewart was in there so we have some crossover but it feels very different and very fresh ... [Following the timelines] becomes a chess game that you try to serve, which actually doesn't help to tell a story and it's sort of been a bit all over the place. I'm not critical of it X-Men was the first movie really in comic book, no one thought there'd be another and there were different directors different off shoots."

So, strictly speaking, Logan takes place six years after Days of Future Past. But if you want to get right down to it, the two films probably don't even take place within the same universe, making the question of which takes place first irrelevant.

The X-Men movies have continuity on par with Legend of Zelda.

Is there an X-Men timeline where everything is pretty nice? It always sounds like mutants end up getting fucked.

In a sense it's the closing of the original movie franchise lead by Jackman and Stewart.

The new one with McAvoy and Fassbender is free to be its own thing.

I don't think one canon or the inconsistencies between the movies matter too much really.
