It doesn't make much sense. Games on the 3DS (and I'm guessing also the Vita) are full-fledged adventures that are of high quality, not just some crappy little pay-to-win fortress defense or whatever.

I think it would be quite depressing if portable consoles died in favor of shallow, lame phone experiences. I think the only one I've played that is any good is Pokemon Duel, but even that suffers for p2w mechanics (I mean, it makes sense that it would be that way but I still think it's lame).

Every company tbh. Just look at really low effort and shallow shit like clash of clans or one of the million monster/hero collection games that made tens of millions with game that probably cost them nearly nothing to make.

I really have no respect for so called mobile gamers who keeps buying premium currency in games and keep feeding the cancer.

This. They paved the way for shit like GTA: Online and Shadows of War. Fuck mobile and everyone that enabled that shit

Theres some decent potential, but wed need an adapter to have physical buttons to make gaming on a phone. Touch screens are pretty bad. It just makes sense to play on a phone.

The middle ground has shifted. Its now:

PC
Console
Portable (which can mean handheld or phones/ tablets)

And most people pick phone because if you get even the slightest bit bored or lose focus you can just home screen to your other apps.

Honestly, mobile games have come such a long way over the past few years that it's amazing. Sure there's still plenty of garbage, but just a few years ago it was almost all garbage. It's gotten a lot better.

If they can keep up that momentum, then they can make a lot more consumers happy while making a huge profit.

Its more convenient, but remember that game can't be too demanding or the battery will die too fast. Its a phone after all and people need it for more than just gaming. That's one of the reasons why most mobile games are so underwhelming and simple. Even if someone made decent paid game that were on par with dedicated handheld standards it would just get buried in mountain of clash of clans copies and other joke games.

Well if you're talking something graphic extensive or location based then yes, but games like yugioh duel links is bigger than ever and is not that harsh on battery if you turn off the special fx and character lines (which are the actual voice actors from the show)

People have been asking for a new ygo handheld game and we got something better. Its made more money than the actual card game and it will only get bigger.

I think for card / collectible games it isn't really that bad (hence my mention of Pokemon Duel earlier) but for anything more complex I think it isn't the best idea. Plus, why would I want to play a game on such a small screen with nothing but touch controls? Not saying a 3DS has perfect controls, but I prefer a d-pad/circle thing over touch anyday. It means that I don't have to obfuscate my view with my own hands.

I guess the screen thing is somewhat fixed if you use a tablet, but the thing is a tablet is massive and even more unwieldy than a 3DS.

Convenience is a factor, sure, but that could quickly plummet when your battery is getting drained so quickly. Facebook already drains so much energy - a full blown game such as Zelda would annihilate a phone battery in no time.
