Thought I had an awesome job lined up, didn't get it. Kinda wanna leave current place, but it's guaranteed income until next year. At the same time I'll be known as the guy who gave 2 weeks but came back <.<

Also since I'm the most senior right now (we lost someone Friday) I think that'll look good on resume since I'm technically an senior accountant now

oh what to do, what to do :(((

They're pretty understaffed (once I leave there will only be one team member left) so in this situation I'm pretty sure they'd take me back

I just... I know I'll look stupid. I really don't wanna lose the salary/potential title change. also there's some stupid rule where employment gaps look bad on a resume, even if it's fully justified

Why the hell did you do that? Surely if you're thinking of rescinding your resignation, the place you're at now can't be so bad that you had to take a risk like that to leave as soon as possible.

And in case anybody was going to mention it, I'm aware that I quit my job without having something lined up, but that was a conscious decision and I knew I might be out of work for a while. Quitting because you think you're getting a new job but don't have it 100% set is a different story.

It was definitely dumb lol. I was actually going to quit anyway because I was not a fan of the team. Sure enough, my favorite manager is coming back to work with us (they left last year). Also I was considering quitting even if I didn't get it. I saved up money just in case the offer fell through (and lucky I did because that exactly happened)

Alright now that I think about it, I definitely don't want to stay anymore, let's just say there's a reason turnover is incredibly high and I just need to accept that leaving is probably my best option even if there's uncertainty to what's going to happen

Tell them that the Lord sent a messenger that told you to remain at your current job because you have a greater purpose there as a part of God's plan, it's foolproof.

annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd just like that I get a team email further justifying me leaving

Welp, that answered my question lol. Doesn't make sense to give a deadline one day before the deadline. This happens far too much and it's ridiculous. #lifeisunfair

They didn't fire me, just took me off a few projects (big ones). Pretty sure I would've been fired if the guy who left last week stayed

The issue is just explaining why I left in a professional way. Even if you work in a shitty environment there;s this unspoken rule where you can't talk about it being bad, but the complete opposite and lie about how good it was. Only to end with "no room for growth"

A good example of how bad HR can be: I referred an intern to my company (only did it because interns get paid hourly and OT which can be really really good). My company said they reviewed her resume and said she was a foreign exchange student. She lives permanently in the US, and had (student exchange program on one line) Her permanent address was in the US. I really didn't know how to handle the incompetence and wish I could tell the intern to run

I did something like this back when I worked in restaurants

I found another job and accepted it, and gave notice at current job. Turns out the new place was a massive shit show. No hierarchy in the kitchen, bosses had no idea what they were doing, and way too much food being precooked and microwaved to order. I ended up talking to the owner of the first place and telling him I'd like to stay on if it was alright, I was just upfront with him and told him the new job sucked.

It was a little humiliating but it was the right call for me at the time.

Not sure why you'd give the notice before for-sure landing the new job. If the new job isn't willing to wait 2 whole weeks for you to transfer after making the offer, that'd raise a red flag to me.
If they made the offer, you sent your 2 week notice, and THEN the new employer rescinded the offer, that truly sucks. I wonder how often that sort of thing happens?

Try to get your old job back and see what happens. Worst case scenario you will be told 'no' and will be in the same situation you're currently in.

You can lie and say you left due to a personal misunderstanding. Something that isn't tied to actual work and has since been resolved.
