Catholicism seems to draw more diverse people. Mass seems to be more lowkey.

Christianity has a whole lot of uptight conservative types. Their churches seem to roll around in money.

IIRC, the main difference twixt the two is how they focus on the Virgin Mary.

my family is from central/east Africa, and growing up, a lot of my friends were Mexican or Filipino, so I only really have experience with Catholics

The Catholic Church uses abusive control tactics to keep members in line (not unlike many cults, Christian or otherwise) such as threatening to withhold sacraments or even going as far as denying them salvation (excommunication) if a member is seen as problematic and also teaches that members must always confess sins to a priest instead of directly to God as another method of maintaining control over members.

At least in most Protestant sects, they teach that salvation is through faith in Christ and not determined by some church (excluding those like the Baptist Briders).

Protestants are Christian too.

Christianity is an umbrella term. It incorporates various groups, including Catholics, Protestants, Mormons, and Orthodox.

Catholics are up on Christians right now since Christians have really gotten knocked down thanks to the Trump/Pence camp.

Broad term is Christianity.

So you got Catholics, Protestants, Orthodox, Coptic, and I think that's it. Protestant is a huge group carrying most of the differing sects like Lutheran, Baptist, and so on.

I think Mormonism counts itself outside the Protestant movement due to its age difference.
