They're also going to broadcast it on Disney XD, which is...neat? It's weird to see video games tournaments on tv but I like the exposure.

Also, they announced Earthbound Beginnings at the last NWC. Maybe they'll announce a Mother 3 localization at this one? One can dream...

So any predictions on the games they'll have to play? Samus Returns was confirmed, but the others are up in the air.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

I feel like we might see Mario Arcade as a surprise one. And probably some kind of Odyssey challenge. Maybe even a surprise reveal of a competitive multiplayer mode for that.

He was in elimination territory after the shield surfing but there's no eliminations until after the first three games.

Metroid: Samus Returns is the third game of stage 1, Diggernaut encounter speed contest. Under 3 minutes = 24 minutes, 3-6 minutes = 12 points, over 6 minutes = no points.

First "underground" elimination challenge: Balloon Fight high score in Balloon Trip (three minute time limit), with the top two continuing in the underground.

And the second Underground stage is...Bird & Beans, a 2003 GBA game that I don't think I've ever heard of. <_< Top two scores continue on, three minutes and unlimited tries just like Balloon Trip.

Oh that explains it, it was an unlockable in WarioWare and then a stand-alone DSiWare game.

Is this like The Wizard for a new millennium? Like, there'll be a brand new game at the end that nobody has seen before?

Next Underground challenge: Donkey Kong Country Returns. Minecart level race. Specifically 4-3. 6 minute time limit, unlimited tries within that time.

That's quite a mean challenge. Only got one minecart health in that game.

Took almost 4:30 for anyone to finish (360Chris). Nobody else made it, so theyre going to sudden death. One shot, furthest progression moves on.

I wouldn't have been incredibly surprised if nobody won. That level sucks.

Next stage, eight players left in the main bracket: Splatoon 2 Tower Control on Snapper Canal (just came out). Best two of three, with the losing team headed underground.

Not that big on Splatoon, but it seems like a solid game. Having the occasional team battle is nice.

John and Cole destroyed their opponents in ARMS. That game looked fun, but those matches were all one sided so it wasnt the best showcase.

Final underground game was 9 minigames in Mario Party 2, Thomas G won.

Finals were 3 games, each deciding a finalist and having the two winners fight in the final game.

First one was Mario Maker, John Numbers won unsurprisingly.

Second game was Super Mario Bros Deluxe, Thomas G won in a first to 5.

Final game is Super Mario Odyssey, John Numbers against Thomas G. Its three challenges apparently, the first two are worth a headstart in the final one.

John and Thomas both won a game, no headstart for the final.

Last one was a level and a boss, it came down to the boss with Thomas G beating it first.
