heres the thing. she actually isn't the harry potter generation. I am. because the books take place in the 90's when she was probably a baby or not even born yet. Harry Potter was born in 1981 the same year as me. I don't know if 1981 is considered millennial but if not, then Harry Potter is not a millennial and millennials are just stealing him.

My students are reading Harry Potter in class. This is my first year teaching and I found them not to have strong reading skills nor very able to comprehend what they read. Since we started there has been so much improvement. We do this as an extra activity. I make a word list up and then they all take turns reading. It is so exciting to see them be excited. I'm so proud of them.

my dad made me read books all the time as a kid. it went from an hour a night to like 2-3. i would cheat by hiding the remote and watching tv and turning it off as soon as i heard him coming.

then he got me the harry potter books.

i read those.

Same with my students. They can't wait until the end of the day and we read. They sit so still and pay attention and then ask questions. I'm amazed at it. They are 9 and 10 year old and some of the words are hard for them but they are getting it.

81 is unquestionably millenial. It's like right in the middle of the generation buddy.

And being the same age of Harry Potter based on the date is different than being the same age as harry Potter based on when the book came out. Being 16 when book 6 came out is "growing up" with Harry Potter.

really? I always thought it was right on the border between Gen X and Millenial. That's why I have never been quite sure which one I am. either the last Gen X or the the first Millenial.

76 is borderline. 81 is included by the vast majority of definitions.

No it isn't. Wikipedia says demographers and researchers typically use the early 1980s as starting birth years and the mid-1990s to early 2000s as ending birth years for millenials. And yeah, it doesn't matter if your age matched the characters' ages in the fictional timeline. The term describes people who grew up parallel with the characters as the books were released.
