nothing like splitting 4k/month rent with 4 other people to share a 1br bedroom above a chinese food takeout place in SoHo, with steaming bags of trash piled up in front of the store, so you can make 40k at a job that makes you work 70 hrs a week and have 80 dollar brunches on the weekend

Only sounds decent to live in if you are a wall street type person who makes 400k a year at least.

lol is this a copypasta? I swear I've read this on here before

And as for the OP, it depends on who you ask. Overrated by some, underrated (or more accurately, unfairly disparaged) by others.

Rents aren't going to be $4k a month unless you need to live in great luxury. Cut that figure in half.

How does 2nd Avenue between 77th and 78th on the Upper East Side of Manhattan sound?

Lol, it's a studio in Manhattan, it's not gonna be huge. It's better than the first apartment I lived in, that's for sure though.

It's probably a pretty dingy building but the point is that the idea that you have to shell out $4k for some crappy 1 bedroom apartment to live in NYC is beyond inaccurate.

NYC when we include all the boroughs (which we should be doing all the time since they all make up the city) includes cheaper spots to live in and spacious places by city standards. My folk's place is a 2 bedroom in Astoria and they pay 2600 a month. A far cry from your 3 grand studio in midtown.

I mean it does get a lot of hate for being overrated, which theoretically would mean it's neither. Overall though, many people love it so probably overrated overall.

As an NYC resident, I would say it's kinda crappy.

Underrated by rural America. As someone that has lived in both city>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>country.

People always say the "people in New York are assholes." But that's not really accurate. In New York, you encounter 200 people a day, 50 of them are assholes. In a rural town, you encounter 20 people a day, 18 of them are assholes. The only time the stereotype is accurate is when you're talking about drivers, who obviously have to be aggressive.
