"A new Yahoo Finance poll suggests the NFL has an enduring problem on its hands. Nearly 62% of 9,056 respondents told us they plan to watch less pro football in response to the anthem controversy. Thirty-six percent said they plan to buy less NFL merchandise, and 32% have chosen not to attend a game they would otherwise have gone to. Those findings all have financial implications for the NFL and its 32 team owners.

We wanted to limit our survey, conducted online via SurveyMonkey from Sept. 28-29, to people who patronize the NFL, and exclude people who have an opinion but don't watch football. So we only counted answers from people who describe themselves as pro football fans. Eighty-eight percent of respondents said they watch at least one game per week, with 46% of those saying they watch more than two games."

There's literally nothing inherently disrespectful about kneeling during the anthem.

In fact, kneeling for something is usually a SIGN OF RESPECT. Obviously, context matters. However, it's their fucking right to kneel.

I mean I think the anthem thing was just what pushed many across. The games are too long with too many commercials. There is no rhyme or reason to punishment in the NFL. Cheating is still pretty rampant. Ticket prices and concessions are still crazy high. The rules changes have made the game less enjoyable, but I guess that is not a bad thing if they are due to safety reasons. That said, the issues with CTE still exist.

That said, the country is so divided and they don't want politics in something that for the most part have been devoid of them.

I personally have no issue with them kneeling, I just have a problem with the NFL as a whole.

Politics are vomited all over the internet, forums, social media, television. A lot of people are just tired of it in general, and now having it carry over into entertainment like sports, which is supposed to be a fun pass time to get away from everyday life, and people think it's now interfering with that also. Some people don't want politics and protests shoved down their throat during every event in life.

I'm speaking generally, this isn't my opinion, but it's what I feel like is getting a lot of people so stirred up. A lot of you may have been very young when 9/11 happened, but there was a unification of the nation and pride in patriotism. 16 years later, this is where we are at as a nation. That's a pretty massive change and a lot of people preferred things how they were.

Again, before i'm attacked, this isn't my personal view. This is my opinion on why others are so upset.

In certain contexts, yes. But when you have Colin Kaepernick quoted saying, "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color." it is certainly not in the context of respecting anything.
